Winding your baby
Babies often gulp in air while they’re feeding and it can cause an uncomfortable air bubbles to form in their tummies.
You can help your baby expel these air bubbles by encouraging him to bring up wind or ‘burp’. He may spit up a little of his feed when he does it, so have a muslin handy!
The best position for winding your baby is to sit him on your lap with one hand under his chin to hold him as upright as possible, while the other gently rubs or pats his back. Alternately, hold him over your shoulder, so he’s looking behind you and gently rub or pat his back (drape that muslin over your clothes first!).
Usually it won’t take long for your baby to bring up wind, so you shouldn’t have to wait too long to try and settle him down for a postfeed sleep.
