Sun Safety
All babies, be they bald or hairy, need to have their heads protected from the sun.
Remember even winter sun can still be very damaging to the sensitive newborn scalp of a baby. Make sure to put a sunhat on your baby if the sun is shining. There are now brands of baby wetsuits and all-in-one swimming costumes that have sun protection built in, so your baby can be safe on the beach, where there may not be too much shade. Many parents invest in special baby cabanas, which can be erected on the beach or in the park, to give their children some shelter from the sun.
Babies under six months need extra protection from the sun, as their skin is thinner than adult skin and more prone to sunburn. Keep them in the shade, and with an outfit on that covers the body. For babies over six months, choose a sunscreen designed for children – ask your pharmacist for advice and watch gurgle's video on keeping your baby cool in hot weather.
