The day I discovered I was pregnant!
The day you find out you’re pregnant is so special, whether you’ve been trying for a baby for a long time or you hit the jackpot the first month. So where were you and what were you doing when the blue line appeared?
“I’m a journalist and was in Chicago to interview one of the all-time sporting greats, basketball player Michael Jordan. But I was feeling so sick and had been for days. I did the pregnancy test just to rule it out really because I’d been told I had fertility problems that would mean I was unlikely to conceive naturally. I couldn’t believe the result… I was overwhelmed. The interview was dreadful though: I was all smiles one minute, feeling like I was about to hurl the next. He must have thought I was crazy…”
Sally Walsh, mum to Jensen, 18 months
“I was flying long-haul and kept having to get up and go to the toilets every 10 minutes. One of the flight attendants raised an eyebrow the ninth time I walked by her and said that was the first pregnancy symptom she’d ever had… and it suddenly struck me that my period was three days late!”
Emily Costello, mum to Maya, 6 months
“I was getting undressed for bed one night when my husband’s eyes literally rocketed out on stalks and he stammered that my breasts had grown enormous overnight! I did the test the next morning and hit the bullseye.
Alison Casey, mum to Josh, 11 months
“I was actually hugely worried when I found out I was expecting because it wasn’t long after Christmas and New Year and I’d been partying hard. So not as joyous as I’d hope that sort of news would be, because I was sure that all those cocktails might have harmed my baby. It was such a relief when all my tests and scans showed she was healthy…”
Kathryn Garner, mum to Milly, 2
“I kept bursting into tears! At everything! My boyfriend put two and two together and stopped by the pharmacy for a pregnancy test on his way home from work one evening. As you can imagine, those tears were tears of happiness!”
Malita Lewis, mum to Cheyenne, 13 months
“I couldn’t face sweets, which is just so unlike me. I always have a supply in the house but suddenly just knowing it was in the cupboard was enough to turn my stomach. I wrapped it, bagged it, boxed it and taped it up, and stuck it on the highest shelf in my closet. When I told my mum she told me to test right there and then and it was positive! All through my pregnancy I couldn’t stand the thought of anything sweet but then two days before I went into labour I got this sudden craving for it, rescued the box and ate the whole lot inside an hour!”
Lucy Mitchell, mum to Jacob, 7 months
“I found out I was pregnant the month after I had a miscarriage and I was overwhelmed – it felt like a second chance. But it didn’t make my pregnancy very easy initially because I was convinced every twinge and incidence of spotting meant I was going to lose this baby too. Thankfully I didn’t and she’s due next month!”
Jane Lawrence, 36 weeks pregnant with baby Miley
“I actually felt pretty guilty when I found out I was pregnant because I could count it back to the one and only time I fantasized that I was doing the deed with someone else – Colonel Jack O’Neill from the sci-fi show Stargate SG-1. Don’t laugh! He was so handsome! The weird thing is that my son has really dark brown eyes just like his spiritual daddy and they don’t run in our families at all! And no, I’ve never let onto his dad… but I did insist we named our son Jack!”
Heidi Sullivan, mum to Jack, 3
“It was a hugely emotional day for me because I had apparently miscarried six weeks before. But I kept having what seemed to be pregnancy symptoms so my midwife suggested I test. It was positive and her theory is that I had originally conceived twins and miscarried one – but my little boy hung on in there.”
Laura Noone, mum to Ollie, 14 weeks

I already sort of knew, we had been trying and I had already been experiencing nausea and fatigue...but for some reason I still felt utterly shocked when I saw that positive result appear on the test!
My first instinct was joy and elation...then dread and fear as thoughts of miscarriage drifted through my mind...that evening (after telling DH, Wayne) I called my best friend to let her know...she told me not to get my hopes up ("It's early days and you know your history..." she cautioned) that was enough to reduce me to a wobbling, sobbing mass...I had to hang up quickly so I could go to the toilet and throw up...I think I spent about an hour in tears after that phone call..lol! Needn't have worried though, my daughter is 7 and a half months old now and perfect!
I was on holiday in Magaluf when I thought I might be pregnant. I was really tired, didn't feel like drinking and felt really sick every time I ate. On the last day, I got really bad stomach ache so when I got home, me and my boyfriend went to the doctor's.
I did a urine test but my best friend couldn't wait for the result so she bought me two pregnancy tests from the shop. I didn't actualy think it would be positive! I texted my boyfriend and he was really excited. I was happy but in shock.
I rang the doctor's about a week later for my urine test results and they said it was negative. I couldn't believe it, me and my boyfriend were gutted! I had a feeling I was though so I took the second pregnancy test, which was positive, again!
The next week, I took one of those digital pregnancy tests which said Pregnant: 2-3 weeks. It only seems like yesterday and now I'm only 3 weeks away from my due date!
Before I took a test I just knew I was pregnant...although I had tried to ignore it as me and my partner hadnt been together long at all!! One week to be exact! I was on the pill and a friend and me went into town as she needed a test too! When we got back she took hers right away but I just couldnt 'go'! As soon as I did the test, the results came almost instantly! I cried as I thought I wasnt ready for children. Now I wouldnt change him for the world! x
