10 Easter activities for kids

If you’re looking for something you and your child can have fun doing together for Easter you’ve come to the right place! Her are gurgle’s top 10 tips for Easter fun with your toddler or child!

1. Tissue dyed Easter eggs

You’ll need hardboiled eggs, brightly colored tissue paper giftwrap and a bowl of water and a spray mister of water. First dip the hardboiled egg in the water to get it wet, and then pat tiny differently colored strips of tissue paper onto the shell. If the eggshell isn’t wet enough for the tissue paper to stick, spritz it with the spray mister. Once the egg is covered with tissue paper, set it aside to dry. Once it’s dry the tissue paper will come off, but the dye will remain on the shell, creating a pattern of wonderful hues!

2. Easter bunny bag

You’ll need a brown paper lunch bag, construction paper, cotton balls, crayons, glue and scissors. You might also want to use fabric scraps, crafting pom-poms. The side on which the base of the lunch bag folds down will be the front of the bag. Cut out construction paper circles for his eyes, a triangle for his nose (or use a pom-pom), rectangles for his teeth, and bunny ears. Your child can color all of these as she wants to and then all you need to do is glue them in place, with his ‘teeth’ glued just under the flap that forms his mouth. Gkue the cotton ball onto the back to form his tail and you’re all set!

3. Fluffy Easter bunny mask

You’ll need plain white paper plates, cotton wool, construction paper, crayons and elastic thread. Cut the paper plate in half and cut holes that will be level with your child’s eyes when she’s wearing the mask. Cut out a circle of construction paper for his nose, two rectangles for his teeth, and bunny ears – your child can color his nose before you glue his nose and teeth onto the center of the cut edge of the plate, and his ears to the top. Paint the plate with glue and show her how to stick on individual cotton balls until the plate is covered. Make a hole at each side and poke elastic thread through to keep the mask in place.

4. Easter chicks

You’ll need an egg carton (cardboard), with each compartment individually cut out, cotton balls, construction paper, paint, and a spray mister with yellow pain diluted one part pain to three parts water. Your child can paint the cut-out carton ‘eggshells’ her favorite color before gluing a cotton ball into each. Glue on circle eyes cut from construction paper, and cut out a diamond shape, folded in half, for his beak. Finally, use the mister bottle to very lightly coat the cotton balls so your chicks are the right color.

5. Spring lamb handprints

You’ll need black construction paper, white chalk, glue and cotton balls. Simply draw around your child’s spread out hand on the black construction paper and cut out his handprint. Glue cotton balls onto the ‘palm’, leaving the fingers and thumb plain. Use the chalk to draw eyes and a smile onto the ‘thumb’ to form your lamb’s face.

6. Easter bunny cupcakes

Use ready made cupcakes or bake your own according to package directions. To decorate them you’ll need frosting, an icing pen, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, M&Ms and Oreos. Frost the cupcakes and then twist apart the Oreos and carefully break each side in half to form two semicircles. Press them into the frosting to form the bunny’s ears. Use two chocolate chips and an M&M for the eyes and nose and two mini marshmallows for his cheeks. Use the icing pen to draw whiskers on his marshmallow cheeks.

7. Easter bonnet

You’ll need empty cereal boxes, glue, tissue paper, fabric scraps and craft feathers/pom-poms. Cut the cereal box in half and open it up so it can be wedged onto your child’s head. Then get her to glue anything she likes onto it to decorate her Easter bonnet!

8. Easter egg hunt

For preschoolers, fill plastic eggs with healthy goodies such as raisins and cereal Os and hide them around the house for an indoor Easter egg hunt.

9. Easter bunny ears

You’ll need a simple strip of construction paper, stapled so it sits on your child’s forehead. Cut bunny ear shapes out of construction paper, get her to paint or color them and glue them to the front of the band.

10. Easter bunny nose

You’ll need an individual section of egg carton (cardboard), cut out so that an additional tab remains on one edge, paint, craft pipe cleaners, and elastic thread. Get your child to paint the tab white and the cup of the egg section pink or black. Poke three holes on each side and thread through the pipe cleaners to form whiskers. Attach elastic thread to hold it in place on your child’s face.
