Top tips for blogging

Here are gurgle’s top 10 tips for getting people to read your blog...

1. Blog regularly

The more often you post a blog entry, the more regularly your name will appear on the blogs home page.

2. Have a theme

Pregnancy and parenting are vast subjects with lots of different topics to cover. So pick a specific topic that’s relevant to you and blog about that. Perhaps you’re having triplets, maybe you’ve got some great breastfeeding tips to share or perhaps you’re just a stressed out dad struggling to make sense of it all! Figure out what your unique perspective is and share it with the world.

3. Write eye-catching titles

Eye-catching titles will make your blog stand out from the crowd on the gurgle blogs page. Some examples of good headlines include: ‘How to...’, ’10 ways to...’, ‘Everything you need to know about...’, ‘The secret of...’

4. Be easy to read

We want everyone to feel like they can start a blog on gurgle, however confident they are at writing. gurgle blogs are about sharing experiences and information, not being the world’s greatest writer. However, keeping your blogs short and to the point, and running a quick spell check before posting will improve the quality of your blog and get more people to read it. Find out how to spell check your blog post here.

5. Interact with your readers

The best bloggers are the ones who talk with their audience, not at them. A healthy blog is one that invites and encourages discussion and debate in the comments section below it. The best way to get comments is to ask questions, even if they’re as simple as ‘what do you think?’ And don’t be afraid to respond to your comments too to keep the debate going.

6. Let your personality shine through

Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through in your writing. Blogging is about creating discussion and conversation and the best way to do that is to be yourself – just like you would in any other social situation.

7. Take a stand

Don’t feel you always need to give both sides of the argument. Many bloggers tend to be very one-sided and opinionated because it leaves room for the opposite side of the argument to be put by other people in the comments section.

8. Use topic tags

Tags are a way of helping people find content on topics that they’re interested in. For example, adding the tag ‘breastfeeding’ will make your post show up alongside all the other blog posts tagged with the same key word. Read more about how to add tags to your blog posts here.

9. Use links, photos and videos

Adding photos, video clips and links to relevant articles makes a blog post more interesting and useful. Read more about how to add photos, video and links to your blog post here.

10. Promote your blog and share it

Before publishing your blog gurgle will give you the option of sharing your blog with your friends and family by posting it on Facebook and Twitter or by emailing it to people. This is a great way to get people to spread the word about your blog. Feel free to tell other gurgle users about your blog in our Chat section or in our groups too. Read more about how to share your blog on Facebook, Twitter and by email here.
