Twinges during pregnancy
Twinges during early pregnancy usually just indicate that your uterus is changing and your body is preparing for pregnancy.
For some women, especially those that have miscarried, any sensation at all is enough to set off a panic. Generally speaking, in very early pregnancy only vaginal bleeding would be indicative of a miscarriage, and twinges are just your uterus preparing for its job over the next nine months or so.
Slight cramps can be experienced when implantation takes place, during the first trimester (weeks 0-12), and are normal. Over the second trimester (weeks 13-28), abdominal cramps are usually a sign of the ligaments and muscles inside your body relaxing due to the hormones flying around your system. In the third trimester (weeks 29-40), cramps and twinges are normally associated with Braxton Hicks contractions.
If you’re experiencing severe pain or bleeding with the twinges or cramps you are experiencing, then seek medical advice immediately.
