Mother donates eggs to 7-year old daughter

Melanie Boivin made what was thought to be the first mother-to-daughter egg donation because her daughter is likely to go through an early menopause, The Metro, London, reported 7th July.

Flavie was born with Turner’s Syndrome, a genetic condition which impairs growth and learning. The syndrome also destroys eggs, leading to an early menopause.

Flavie’s mother, a 35 year old lawyer from Montreal, said: ‘If she had needed another organ like a kidney, I would volunteer without any hesitation.’

The eggs were collected and frozen at the McGill Reproductive Center at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

Dr Seang Lin Tan, who led the team, said Ms Boivin made an emotional appeal to the hospital to allow the procedure.

If her daughter, Flavie, one day uses the eggs to have a baby, she will give birth to her own half-sister or half-brother.
