Miracle identical triplets

Miracle identical triplets

New mum Christina Astley, 25, defied odds of 200 million to one by giving birth to identical triplets. The triplets, born in Austria where Christina's husband Thomas Grazidei is from, each way 3.3lbs and are 15.7inchs long.

Mum Christina has an epidural, but commented: 'I'm a bit tired but I'm doing fine and I'm delighted.'

Amazingly, the chances of being pregnant with identical triplets, where a fertilised egg divides into three, is one in 200 million. As Christina and Thomas had no fertility treatment, experts think the egg may have split after she received a huge jolt roughly six days after she conceived. Her doctor said: 'We're amazed she kept the pregnancy as the blow was so strong that the egg split in three.'

Doctors in the Austrian hospital where the triplets were born say the babies, Amy, Kim and Zoe are healthy and doing well and they may even be able to go home at the end of this month.

Proud dad Thomas, 27, commented: 'We thank God that everything went well. But they all look the same. I don't know how we are going to tell them apart when they haven't got hospital wristbands on.'
