Breastfeeding low

Breastfeeding low

According to a UNICEF UK study, forty per cent of maternity units in England do not promote breastfeeding well enough.

The study, which came out yesterday, is said to put mums and infants at risk because not enough help is given to mums who want to breastfeed. Breast-feeding has been proven to help infants become protected against illnesses and to strenghen their immune systems.  It also helps to protect mums from breast and ovarian cancers.

Breastfeeding rates in Britain are currently among Europe's lowest and many midwives have no training to deal with mums who need help breastfeeding.
