Pre-school children are stressed
According to a recent study, young children show signs of stress up to six months before they are due to start primary school.
The study, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council involved 105 children in Bath and north-east Somerset. It involved parents having to collect their children's saliva for four to six months before they started school, two weeks into the first term and six months later. Julie Turner-Cobb, from Bath University, who led the study said that hormone levels from the earlier tests were higher than expected.
The results also showed that extrovert children might be more stressed as children who were more reserved showed a lower hormone reading. The reserved children also had lower stress levels after six months which shows they probably adapted to their new environment.
