IVF Egg Share

IVF Egg Share

Today an 'egg-sharing' scheme which offers cut price fertility treatment to women who donate stem cells for research will start.

Woman who are prepared to donate stem cells will get something like £1,500 towards their IVF treatment, which normally costs around £3,000 if they gice half their eggs for research. Scientists will then clone the the stem cells which can help with research into finding medicines for illnesses like Parkinson's disease.

The Medical Research council have agreed to fund the £150,000 project run by the Newcastle NHS Fertility Centre.

The scheme has been panned by critics who regard it as "lunacy".
