Top tips for travelling with a toddler
Traveling with a toddler can be pretty nerve-wracking, not least because now your little angel has a new weapon: legs that walk!
The need to keep a constant eye on runaway tots, as well as their never-ending capacity to find something that’s going to hurt them, means you won’t sit still! For this reason, don’t even think about the kind of vacation where you flop on the beach all day, catching up on some holiday reads. Instead, try to create a toddler-friendly activity-filled trip – it’ll suit your toddler just fine, and might also burn off enough of her energy that you’ll get some respite when she catches up on her ZZZs. Try these top tips for size…
• Make sure you pack plenty of toys and books for your journey, especially if it’s a long one.
• For long journeys, it might be worth investing in a personal DVD player so your child can watch her favorite TV characters on the move.
• Try to plan flights around nap-times as this will make in-flight time pass more quickly for everybody.
• If you’re visiting a hot climate, ensure your child has a safe supply of water to avoid dehydration.
• Carry a small first-aid kit with you to patch up booboos quickly.
• Put an ID bracelet on your child, with your name and a phone number to call, in case the unspeakable should happen and they wander off in that lightning-fast way toddlers can.
• Plan activities and outings for the first part of the day, so your child can have an afternoon nap after lunch – especially important in hot temperatures.
