Heidi Klum and Seal
As a previous Victoria’s Secret model, fashion designer, reality television producer and judge, it is hard to believe Heidi Klum has had time to have four children. (She made us all jealous when she returned to walk the catwalk at a Victoria’s Secret fashion show just five-weeks after giving birth!) Her children are, Leni (almost 7) born on May 4, 2004; Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel (5½) born on September 12, 2005; Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel (4½) born on November 22, 2006 and her youngest Lou Sulola Samuel (1½) born on October 9, 2009. The shortest time between her births was her second and third, with a 14 month gap. This gap also means that she got pregnant about 5 months after giving birth. The longest time between her children was about three years, between her third and fourth. However she’s not alone in celebville when it comes to getting pregnant again…
Claudia Schiffer and Matthew Vaughn
Much like Heidi Klum, we are very jealous of Claudia Schiffer’s life. As a supermodel, it is hard not to be envious of her figure,
especially after she has had
three kids! Her first child, Casper Matthew Drummond (8), was born on
January 30, 2003. Like Nicole Richie, she welcomed her second child
just a year-and-a-half later. Clementine Drummond (7 ½) was introduced
to the world on November 11, 2004. Claudia then took a little bit of
time off between having her children and gave birth to Cosima Violet
(10 months) on May 14, 2010. Although her last child was born six years
after her second, she did give her body time to heal and recover from
her two previous pregnancies.Britney Spears
We all know the drama that has surrounded Britney Spears. We grew up with her as a sweet and innocent teen who ended up having a Las Vegas wedding (followed by an annulment), shaving her head and now resurrecting her pop career. She also gave birth to two sons who were born just a year apart. First born, Sean Preston Federline (5½), was born on September 14, 2005 followed very closely by a younger brother, Jayden James Federline (4½), born on September 12, 2006. It’s a good thing that Jayden was born on the 12th, because it might have been a little awkward with some jealously issues thrown in the mix, if he had shared his older brother’s birthday.
Kerry Katona
Former Atomic Kitten singer, TV personality, and mother Kerry Katona has four children, but while her first three children were born with a fair amount of time between them, her fourth child, a boy, was only a year younger than his older sister. Molly Marie McFadden (10 ½), her first born, was welcomed into the world on August 31, 2001. Two years later she gave birth to Lilly-Sue (8) who was born on February 3, 2003. She took a little bit more time off and welcomed Heidi Elizabeth Croft (4) on February 20, 2007. She then had a close gap pregnancy when she gave birth to Maxwell Mark (almost 3) on April 11, 2008. Maxwell, her fourth child, was actually born five weeks premature meaning there are fourteen months between Heidi and Maxwell. Kerry may have had her ups and downs, but being mum to four children and giving birth in quick succession is hard work, and that, we salute her for.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden
As the daughter of Lionel Richie, Nicole has never been out of the spotlight. As a Hollywood socialite, she is constantly being watched, from her feud with Paris Hilton to her short jail time due to a drink driving incident, it is nice to see that she has become a doting mum on two beautiful children. Her daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden (3) was born January 11, 2008. This was the first step to turning her life around and ending her party girl routine. It was solidified a year-and-a-half later when she welcomed a second child, a son; Sparrow James Midnight Madden (1½) was welcomed into the world on September 9, 2009, making her children 19 months apart in age. A year after welcoming her son into the world, she married he boyfriend and father of her children, Joel Madden on December 11, 2010.
Stella McCartney
Just like Nicole Richie, Stella McCartney grew up with a famous father, Sir Paul McCartney. Her first child, a son, Miller Alasdhair James Willis (6) was born on February 25, 2005. Toward
s the end of following year, her first daughter, Bailey Linda Olwyn Willis (4) was born on December 8, 2006. Bailey was closely followed by Beckett Robert lee Willis (3) on January 8, 2008. Her two middle children were born 13 months apart, meaning that she conceived her third child a mere four months after giving birth. She waited a little bit of time before giving birth to her fourth child, Reiley Dilys Stella Willis who was recently born on November 32, 2010. Is it safe to get Pregnant again so quickly?
In 2003, Cambridge University Professor Gordon Smith, studied 89,000 women in Scotland over a six year period to find out if having babies in quick succession increased risk and complications for both mums and babies. The study found that women who had a short gap between giving birth and getting pregnant again were more likely to have a complicated second birth and were twice as likely to have a premature baby or suffer the death of an infant. Doctors basically concluded that these complications may have occurred because these women did not give their bodies enough time to recover from a previous pregnancy.
Professor Bill Ledger, head of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, said: “It would be good advice to take just a little bit more time to let your body get over birth before you try again.”
It is important to consider the risks when getting pregnant so close to giving birth. Not only are there health risks to the baby, but there could be physical risks to you as a mother and potential risks to your newborn baby. (Check out Are We Ready for Another baby?) Celebrity families seem to be getting larger and larger with many close gap pregnancies; we're not sure whether we are envious of large celebrity broods and close gap babies, or glad we stuck with one child or two!
