Top 10 pregnancy guilty pleasures
To help you make the most of the next nine months, gurgle has rounded up the top 10 pregnancy guilty pleasures:
1) You have the perfect excuse not to go out for a big night! Yes we know this can be fun once in a while, but sometimes it can be much nicer to put your slippers on, grab your other half and curl up in front of a movie with a bowl of popcorn. Now you have the perfect excuse!
2) You can be moody (within reason!) Usually you will get a bit of rap from your other half if you’re moody and snappy for no reason, but now you’re allowed to have the odd grumble now and again. And blame it on the hormones!
3) You can treat yourself to that pudding once in a while! Obviously it’s important that you don’t put on too much weight in pregnancy, but it’s inevitable – and crucial for your unborn baby - that you will put on a certain amount. So you can give in to your sweet tooth now and then and let yourself have that apple crumble. Use gurgle’s pregnancy weight gain calculator to find out how much weight you should be putting on in pregnancy.
4) You can indulge your weird and wacky cravings! When else can you get away with eating a marmite and ice-cream sundae with pickles? Alright, so maybe this particular concoction isn't for everyone; if this doesn’t tickle your fancy, why not check out our Wacky Cravings recipes? Remember that there are certain things you shouldn’t eat in pregnancy; why not read our feature on foods you should avoid in pregnancy to find out more.
5) Being pampered. You deserve a bit of special treatment when you’re pregnant, so if you feel like a bit of breakfast in bed or are craving jam sandwiches at 3am – ask your hubby! If he puts up a fuss, remind him that you are carrying his baby, after all…It’s only fair!
6) Indulge in a bit of retail therapy. Before your bundle of joy arrives you should make the most of your free time. Give yourself a bit of a boost by buying a special maternity outfit that makes you feel special. Read our feature on Autumn maternity fashion for some ideas.
7) Let your friends spoil you; if your best friend offers to throw you a baby shower, let her! Then put your feet up and let them do the rest! What better reason to have a party than the fact you're about to become a parent?
8) Early nights and long lie-ins! Noone can accuse you of being a lazybones now. Especially in the early stages of pregnancy you’re likely to experience some pregnancy fatigue. If you’re working, you obviously can’t nap at your desk but you can ensure you get enough sleep by getting plenty of early nights and long lie-ins at the weekend. If you already have children this will be easier said than done, but take up any offers of babysitting from family and friends, or make pleading eyes at your hubby!
9) Ease off on the housework! No, we’re not suggesting that you let the washing pile up and watch on as your house turns into a pig-sty, but share the chores with your hubby. Remember that in pregnancy you shouldn’t be lifting anything heavy anyway, so ask your other half for help with the hoovering and if any moving and shifting needs to be done – ask him for a helping hand!
10) Make the most of your new-found curves. Most pregnant women find that their breasts become fuller in pregnancy so if you’ve previously been flat-chested, you can now enjoy having the chest you’ve always dreamed of!
