Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Check out those boobs!
This October alone, nearly 4,000 people will receive the devastating news they have breast cancer and another 1,000 people will die from the disease. Every year 46,000 people are told that they have breast cancer. If statistics as scary as this doesn’t drive you to check your breasts next time you take a shower, I don’t know what will!
Contrary to popular belief, there’s no right or wrong way to check your breasts, it’s more important that you create your own routine and are aware of any changes in your breasts. Just make sure you check the whole breast, your underarm, and right up to your collarbone.
When checking your breasts the things you should look out for are changes in the size or shape, changes in the skin texture such as puckering or dimpling, inverted nipples, a lump or thickening of breast tissue, redness or a rash on the skin/around the nipples, discharge from one or both nipples, constant pain in breast or armpit, or a swelling in your armpit or around your collarbone.
Here are the five easy steps to being breast aware:
1. Know what’s normal for you
2. Know what to look and feel for (see our list above)
3. Look and feel regularly!
4. Report any changes to your GP without delay
5. Attend regular breast screenings if you are over 50
The face of breast cancer is not all doom and gloom; new research is improving the chances of cancer survival all the time, but for that research to continue, financial help is needed. There are hundreds of ways you can support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but one of our favourite ways is by shopping! High street stores across the country are showing they care about Breast Cancer research by creating a range of great products that you can buy right now. A donation from each item sold goes to Breast Cancer Care, the leading charity providing expert information and skilled emotional and practical support to anyone affected by this life-threatening illness.
Here are our favourite pieces:

Swarovski pendant: £15
Asda Muppet T-Shirt: £6
Pink cadbury’s flake: 46p
