Five ways to simplify school/nursery mornings
1. Get up earlier!
Sorry about this one, but it's true. Most mums will be up at the crack of dawn anyway with their early rises, but those who are blessed with children who sleep a little later, may still want to think about getting up early. Getting up before the kids may mean you can make sandwiches for school, or lay out uniforms or even just empty the dishwasher before everyone is up and demanding your attention!2. Make sandwiches the night before
Those who have opted for the sandwich rather than school dinner route may want to think about making sandwiches the night before and putting them in the fridge. This means you can literally shove them into backpacks the following morning. It may also mean you notice the night before that you have run out of something (like bread!) rather than having a panic in the morning.3. Organise, Organise, Organise...
Have a place in your house with trays laid out for each child (in the hallway is ideal) so that they can dump their school bags in their trays when they get in from school. That way they are all in one place and you can check through them to empty lunch boxes, make sure homework is being done and any notes or projects needed for school aren’t forgotten. Having a school/nursery notice board somewhere in your house can help to keep you sane because you’ll find that each child has different activities during the week, playdates, homework and after school clubs. At least this way you can make sure that you haven’t sent the wrong child off with ballet shoes instead of football boots.4. Get dad helping too
It’s not just mums who have to deal with stressful mornings, dads can help out too. Dads can get the children in their school uniforms whilst mum has a shower. Or, dad supervises breakfast and mum makes sandwiches. It is a whole lot easier when you are both working to get the kids out of the door and dressed in the right uniform with the right backpack on!5. Lay out uniforms the night before
This way you’ll realise early enough if the uniforms are covered in mud/chocolate/paint or there are no clean white socks. It also means that early risers can wake up and dress themselves!Last Modified:
