Arrhythmia

I had my 25 week appointment with the midwife last friday and she was listening to the heartbeat and said she could hear my little girl missing quite alot of beats, every 2-10 beats, she would miss one, i went to hospital yesterday to have it looked at in more detail and they say not to worry, but i've got to go back tomorrow and have another scan so they can look at her heart and other organs just to make sure they are still growing alright, the 20 week scan didn't pick up anything and she was doing very well then, they say this sort of thing is quite common and usually just goes away after a while. Has anyone else ever had this, if so, how did it turn out? the docs have convinced me not to worry so i'm not, i just want to know if they are just trying not to scare me?!

Irregular heart beats in babies during pregnancy is quite common. Your baby will have had a detailed anomaly scan at 20 weeks of the heart to check for any abnormality, your scan tomorrow will just be to double check this and to look at the blood flow through the placenta. No one really knows why irregular heartbeats occur and indeed in the cases that I have seen it does not seem to pose any problems for the baby before or after the birth. I suspect that you doctors will may be do a couple of growth scans throughout your pregnancy just to keep an eye on the situation.

hi hun, m daghter had that, i am pleased to say when she was born she was tottaly fine. i was going to the hosp for checks 3 times a week so if they get you to do that dont worry. i was told to cut out coffee and to stop smoking as all of them if stopped will help. my daughter is 16months now and all is fine with her. i think in many cases it just mends itsself, thank god in mine. it is very worrying and very stressful but im sure you will be fine. another thing is they wouldnt let me go over my due date, she came 3 days early anyway and i had a natural delivery. dont worry hun xxxxx

Went to midwife last Friday and once again i had a different midwife, don't think I've seen the same one twice so far, she listened to the heartbeat, i could hear it too and i could hardly hear any missed beats at all, obviously the midwife there hadn't heard it last time so didn't know whether or not it had got better, she just had to go on my say so. i'l wait and see who i see next Friday to have it checked again, hopefully by then it will sound completely normal. that would certainly be one of the best Xmas presents i could ever have. perhaps then i can start to chill out a bit, everything is happening at once, move house on the 13th/14th this month, then go on holiday to france on the 18th, (10 hour drive to get to where we are going). we just dont seem to have stopped to relax for a month or so now, be glad when the new year gets here and we can settle down in our new place and chill out waiting for feb 21st to get here!! Xx

Dont feel bad about it, i'd would rather hear the truth whether it is good or bad. after all, if you just hear good things, you get your hopes up and if you get bad news, it hits you twice as hard. Thankyou for also replying to the antenatal classes question, i really dont want to go but a few people i know say i'm silly for not going, my reply to them has been basically what you said to me, women have been having babies for as many years as we have been on earth, how did they all cope without classes? they dont seem to have an answer for that! i will keep you posted. how old is your little girl now? Xx

Thankyou for replying to my post, and no, no one likes to hear bad things but i really do appreciate you telling the truth, it's good to be prepared. i'm so glad to hear your little girl is ok now, i went for the scan at hospital and the doc was an hour and a half late because he had been up all night and morning delivering babies, bless him, he had a very good look at her heart and said all looked good but i have to go to midwifes for a check at 28 weeks, 30 weeks, then back to hospital at 33 weeks (new years eve) to see him for another check. he cant see anything to worry about but does want it kept an eye on untill it puts itself right. he did say the arteries from the heart are a good size so i know he looked at that properly, he did seem to rush a little bit but was talking me through everything as he was looking. i'm sure as he said it's all good but i will keep you and your little girl in mind. thankyou again. Xx

hiya my little girl had the same thing i wet to hospita for a scan at 30 weeks and they said her heart looked fine when she was born she was diagnosed with tetraolgy of fallot basically the arteries leading from the heart where very small and she had a hole inbetween the bottom 2 chambers. after she was born they reviwed the 30 week scan and a cardiologist spotted it but the radiologist completely missed it she had open heart surgey 6mths ago and is now doing very well, i was told that it is very rare so it is probebly nothing to worry bout but just prepar yourself, the radiologist should have spotted megans but she was in a rush to get on her lunch. i know its not a story your gonna wanna hear but i would rather tell you the truth
