Cat proof playpen suggestion

Hello. I am looking for a playpen that will double us as a playmat with something to occupy my new baby due in February 2009. I have three very enquisitive cats so need something that will be safe for me to make a cup of tea and leave her for a few minutes. Any suggestions? Rowan

Thank you for all your replies, I have found the clippasafe net which at £5 is worth getting just in case we need it. We also had a 3 month old round the other day and they had a little sniff and that was it, so think Im worrying about nothing, and we don't let them upstairs anyway so we should be ok. Rx

Nice to hear the cat tales from you all; some of the stories did make me laugh!
My two cats are acting odd; but nothing I can put my finger on; the boy just wants to be cuddly (as always), but he is being more careful than usual!
Can't wait to see what they make of all the changes..
Love to all (including the Kitty's)

you could see if mosquito net fits over moses basket. sorry can't think of anything else. they fit over carrycots tho. I can understand your concerns but cats are such independant animals I doubt they'll hang about near the baby- especially when it starts crying or fills it's nappy! I was worried about our dog (alsation) to begin with and while I would NEVER leave baby and dog alone together it's not an issue after all- dog does not like baby's company at all although baby adores dog and chases around after her yelling and bossing poor pooch around hehe! x x

Hi, I'm 32 weeks pregnant and our Cat has behaved really strange since we found out I was expecting. She follows me everywhere, even if I'm in the shower, she'll sit outside was meow. When she sits on my knee (she never sits on my partners knee anymore, always mine much to his disgust!) she has at least one of her paws on my ever expanding belly. She did go too far the other night though when she brought in a mouse, still alive and ran straight upstair onto the bed and threw it at me as though she thought I needed some extra nutrition....I've never moved so quick and David thought I was going into labour! She's never done anything like this before, really strange! Jules x
Well mine are two boys and are treated like babies so i think they sense something is going to change...i.e they won't be mummy's babies any more! One has started (sorry for info) weeing outside the litter tray - whilst in it, he's just aiming too high! I don't know if it's just a cat thing or if it's because I'm pregnant he's trying to mark his territory! Bit worrying but I'm sure they'll be fine. We shut them out of what will be the babies room when we're out and have been reducing the amount of nights they're allowed to sleep in our room - much to their disgust! They're siamese too so are quite high maintenance - it'll be interesting to see who wins the screaming matches - baby or cats! x

Hi!, my 2 cats have always hated being aroung Toby, he loves them, but they run away from him! I was worried when he was a baby that they would get in bed with him, so I always had his bedroom, and ours shut off when he was little, and I would make sure I never left him in the same room, but after a while I realised they just werent interested! He's bedroom door is always open (when hes not in it) and Ive only found them on his bed a couple of times - they know better!
On the subject of cats though Id be interested to know if anyones cat acted really strange around them when they were in labour, mine seemed to know, and my boy cat wouldnt leave me alone!

You can get cat nets - on amazon (clippasafe is the brand i think) - that fit over moses basket/ carry cot and one that fits over the cot. If you get your playpen you'll be able to look for one that will go with that.

I'll be doing the same - i too have two very inquisitive cats! I'm hoping they'll be scared of the baby! xx
