After a coupleof trips to hospital, the doctors think my 13mth old daughter has fractured her collarbone. She hasn't fallen or anything and i really don't know how this could have happened Does anyone have any advice?

At 18 months my daughter fractured her collar bone thinking she was tinkerbell and could fly off a 10ft trampoline! Firstly still annoyed at certain people who were looking after her as she clearly should not have been on the trampoline! She is now 6 and she healed fine she does now have a lump on her collar bone where she fractured it but docs say this normal for where the bone fuses together. Babies bones are softer than ours so are easier to brake and don't always cause them pain at the time. Took my daughter a few days before we knew she broke her collar bone and it was only cause she refused to use the arm that we realised. Don't worry too much about her i'm sure she'll be fine but if you are really positive she hasn't banged herself, stumbled, or fell even when not with you i would make sure you push the doctors to look at it further. It's always better to check and find nothing than to not check and find out later. Hope all goes well x

Hi ya my 4yr old son fractured his collar bone 2 months ago. All he did was fall on our laminate floor, but where he landed on his side, it pushed into his collar bone and fractured it.
They gave him an xray to confirm it.

Unfortunatly there is nothing that can be done for a fracture. My son had a sling on for 3 weeks and time off school-in case he fell on it again. He was also in a huge amount of pain for the first 2 weeks. We were just told to give him ibrofen and calpol.
He's now 100% fine.

Your daughter is young so the bones heal pretty quick. Just give her infant paracetamol if she seems in pain, and watch she doesnt fall on it. She could have fallen against her cot, or even bumped into a wall. Its easily done apparently. If your in doubt or she seems in too much pain, demand an xray.
