Why not try mixing the 2, thats what I did with my son, then just gradually increased the cows milk and decreased the follow on milk. They don't have to go onto follow on milk to do this, you can wean them off stage on and onto cows milk. I can understand if they have a weak stomach to wait and use the follow on but cows milk is actually heavier than follow on so makes tummies feel fuller so in a lot of instances they will sleep better.
I know we all think "oh but they are still babies" but give it a few weeks of going to the supermarket and picking up a couple of extra bottles of reasonably priced milk which you can pour straight from the bottle into their bottle or cup and you will forget ever thinking those thoughts!!
I would suggest you follow your health visitor’s advice – it is very sensible! Your baby will gain all the vitamins and minerals she needs from a balanced diet which is made up of cow’s milk and her weaning foods, especially if you make sure she is eating a balance of fresh fruit and vegetables with the right sort of protein and carbohydrates. There are some very good weaning books on the market which give you ideas and recipes for ensuring that your baby has a balanced diet – the recipes are very simple and easy to produce and very tasty! To save time and money make up double quantities of pureed vegetables, fruit and the weaning dishes and freeze them in ice cube trays. Once frozen you can tip the blocks into freezer bags and take out enough for each meal. You can also swop dishes with friends who are also weaning which gives the babies plenty of variety.
I did give the follow on milk to my son until he was a year and a half but used cows milk in his cereal and gradually moved him over, as i tried at a year to switch straight to cows milk but it made him sick. but i guess every child is different but it does work out quite expensive and an inconvience when they drink loads in a day and there isn't enough left at bedtime and there r no Booots stores open tobuy it as the supermarkets are always out of stock
Good point! I'll have try to introduce her to drinking Cow's milk gradually when she's one as the follow on milk is very expensive but she probably not want cow's milk straight away. I am mixing it in her food now so hopefully she'll like it! Thanks for that.

thanks for that, hope my daughter will like drinking cow's milk. i gave her to try Hipp organic instead of Aptamil and she hated it so I switched back to Aptamil
personally i never used follow on with my 2 as i used cows milk as soon as they were old enough with advice of the hv. i topped thier vitamin intake by adding it to thier water. sorry cant remember what it was called but a pharmacist could advise you. it was in liquid form and you added one or two drops either into their mouth or in a drink.
Hi everyone, I'm considering whether to put my daughter on Follow on Milk when she hits her first birthday; my HV says no need it's just a con, if have balanced diet etc. I'm not sure whether can get out all the vit&min from diet alone, especially for a growing baby. She's on Aptamil baby milk and that's till she's 1 and then can give Cow's milk as a drink. Any advise, please?
