My 4 year old daughter's had her pre-school eye test today and has to be referred to an optician as it looks like she may have a lazy eye and need glasses. I know it sounds silly but it's really upset me. I'll be fine once I get my head round it just in shock at the moment because I didn't notice anything wrong. Don't really know what to expect when she sees the optician and whether she'll have to wear glasses forever.

She has got a lazy eye and is long sighted so she has the jam jars too!!!! She's thrilled with them, though it's going to take a while for me to get used to them. They have said if she wears them all day every day it should improve and hopefully won't need to patch. Got another appointment in three months. Thanks for your kind words x
So pleased that she likes her new glasses. I know what you mean about getting used to them I nearly cried when he first put them on - I don't know why really but I found it quite emotional and upsetting! Silly I know because it is only a pair of glasses! His older brother acted a bit strange too for the first day or two, he kept looking at him and wouldn't speak to him properly but he got over it, when I spoke to him he said he was worried about him at school - he might get picked on, bless him to think about his little brother though.
Hope everything goes well as it did for my son. Have a great Xmas with your family x

Hi
Try not to worry I noticed that my sons right eye turned in when he was trying to ficus i.e. watching telly it is much worse when he is tired though. I took him to the optician who then referred us to the hospital it was a worrying time for us as like you say you can just picture the patch on the glasses and he has speech difficulties too, we were already worried about him starting school!
He was diagnosed with a lazy eye but luckily? for us it was due to the fact that he is severely long sighted and has to have the thickest lenses on his little batman glasses I have ever seen - real little jam jars, bless him!
He has coped brilliantly with them though - smashed them a few times when he first started school - typical little lad!
We took him for a check up at the hospital last week and they assessed his vision with his glasses - it is almost up to normal vision with the glasses now. They have said that he will probably have to wear them for the rest of his life - which is a bit shocking and it did upset me a bit neither me or his dad wear glasses! Try not to worry about it - kids glasses are lovely now too. Hope things go well x

I think you always think of your child being 'perfect' and it is upsetting to find out they need glasses or in your case hearing aids. I know I'm being silly about the glasses but it was just a shock. I can imagine how you feel. Hope you don't think I was being insensitive x

Our appointment has arrived for Millie to see the optician for the 16th and I'm not looking forward to it. She has to have eye drops and I know she will not keep still!!!! At least I'll know one way or the other what is wrong and whether she'll need glasses. I know I'm being silly but I still worry about her being picked on. She starts school in Sept and I was worried enough about her red hair!!!! I know, I think too much!!! lol

Thanks for your kind words. I think I've just got this picture in my head from school of thick glasses with sticky plaster over one eye!!! I've been out today to look at some children's glasses and they have some lovely Barbie one's which my daughter would love. I'll just have to wait for her appointment to come through to find out more. I do worry about her being picked on but children will always find something to make fun of.
