According to a survey by baby feeding brand Phillips Avent, Breastfeeding is now more popular with new mothers than it was five years ago. In a poll of more than 1,000 mothers, breastfeeding has risen by two-thirds over the past thirty years. Nearly all the mothers surveyed said that they believed breastmilk was the healthiest and easiest way to feed their babies. I think it's great that new mothers are encouraged to breastfeed now, but i'd love to hear your views and whether you were encouraged from the start...

I am a first time mum, and like to try anything once, i definitely want to try breast feeding as i do think that it brings you closer to your baby, and its the healthiest option, if it doesnt work out at least i can say i tried! unfortunately the only source of advice i've had for making my decision have been mine and my partners mum, both never breastfed and have given me nothing but negative feedback to my decision which is fairly frustrating, i have had so much conflicting advice, thank god im headstrong and able to make my own decisions!

hi i disagree that breastfeeding is always best. i had my little boy 6 and a half months ago and have bottle fed him from the start. I beleive I made the best decisioon by my son as I didn't put alot of weight on whilst pregnant, had an eating probl;em prior to becomming pregnat, was sick foor the wholde duration of my pregnancy therefore any nutrietns were going straight to himas he grew inside me, I didn't think and still dont think that he would have had the most nutritious milk from me, I chose to use Aptamil Formula as it is the closest to breat milk after reasearching different brands. He was 5lb12oz when he was born and now weighs 17lb 2oz( 2 weeks ago) which the hv says is really good. Finley now east 3 regular meals a day adn has about a litre of milk. He is healthy and has only just started to get a slight cold, really good considering family and friends have had most bugs, flus, colds nad the isckness bug since he was born.
At thern end of the day I think it is an individual choice and personal preference as to what the mum thinks is best. i know for a fact that Finley was much better off with formula and it has not affected the bonding process at all, he is a real mummy's boy and I cant bear to leave him. It also meant he has had a better bond with his daddy as he would give him abottle in the evening when he was new born. This is only my opninion and I think its good that mums do breastfeed and it is more socially acceptbale now adays and mums don't need to hide away whilst feeding etc.

Thats good news indeed!!! I was chocked when i first came to the UK and saw how many new mums give the bottle instead of breastfeeding. I come from Denmark where everybody breastfeeds and it is very natural. But good to hear its changing here.
It IS the best and it is sooo easy. It can be a very hard start, i know that all too well, but it is so rewarding in the end.
My son i one next month and he is still being breastfed.
