Wow, your HV still one of those who are recommending weaning before 6 months!
Current advice is to wait until 6 months whether weaning on pureed food or BLW.
I don't have any experience on pureed food weaning as I'm doing the baby led weaning method. I continue with all the normal feeds and introduce bits of fruit and veg for baby to play with and possibly suck or eat. It continues until about a year old, when your baby should be eating more food and taking less milk. My baby is 26 wks. I'm only doing one solids meal at an hour before a bf (around 4-5pm), but others do it how it suits their baby.
My friends who are doing the conventional puree way, have dropped the night feed, and another feed during the day on a trial and error basis.

My son is 20 weeks old and I introduced solids a few weeks ago. He finishes everything I offer him even when I've increased the amount. My HV suggested giving him 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) which I am doing, but I'm concerned that he's filling up on food and not getting enough breastmilk. How do I fit in breast milk as well? Is it best to breast feed him just before I give him solids, or in between meals? Any advice appreciated!

Hi. I think thst breastfeeding is still very important at this stage, as it contains alot of water, as he will get more thirsty now your weaning and also provides most of the nutrients he still needs at this point, I think if you can, give him a early morning feed (5-6am if he wakes at that time) then if he goes back to sleep you can give him his breakfast at 8ish? Then breastmilk midmorn, then lunch, then mid afternoon b/feed then Tea, then bedtime feed, along with any in the night if he does wake that should be more than enough, if he wakes at around 8am, you could always b/feed him then, as its obv not satisfying him for long, and its easily digested so he'll more than likely be ready for breastfast around 9.30-10am and you can just go from there? Hope that helps

Think my HV was just being realistic and not so 'text-book' like some others. She didn't advise me to start b4 6 months, just gave me advice and support once I had made the decision to start weaning. I introduced solids when my baby started waking 3 or 4 times through the night for a feed after he had previously been sleeping right through. Once I introduced solids he went back to sleeping all night. It was just so obvious that he was hungry and ready for something more. I just did what was best for my baby.
