My son is 18 months old and has always been quite good at sleeping. He normally has no problems going to bed and falling asleep on his own but the last week has been a nightmare! He screams and screams for up to an hour. We have tried patting his bottom (he cires as soon as we stop), picking him up (he cries as soon as put down) and leaving him to cry but it is getting worse and worse.
He has also started in the last couple of weeks waking up at about 4.30 and crying on and off till we finally get him up about 6.
He only has about an hour nap and goes to bed normally at 7 but we have been this week trying him at half 7 to see if that helps.
My OH and I have had enough of all this crying and early mornings and are not sure what to do next!
Do you think it's just a phase or something more?
HELP PLEASE!!
I second everything gabster78 just said - bath, feed then bed - my son knows the routine and likes it too.. and swaddling was amazing, we started doing it around 4 or 5 wks and it really worked.. No longer swaddled but sleeps very well now.

Have you tried swaddling him? If he is kicking about and will sleep on you he might just need to feel like he's being cuddled for a while, he's still pretty new to the outside world and a moses basket despite being tiny is still bigger than where he's been used to sleeping for the past 9mths! Also something that helped my son to know it was bedtime was a routine - bath, feed then bed - after a few nights of doing this he would be crying for his feed by the time I put his vest on and was ready and happy to go to bed afterwards. Hope these ideas help!
Hi, i am having trouble settling my 4 week old baby in the evening. He feeds every 3-4 hours throughout the day but around the same time each evening he has moaning stages where he starts stretching and kicking is legs and arms around, and we end up having to let him fall asleep on one of us and then we can put him in his moses basket. He wakes throughout the night feeds then normally settles down again, its just the intial stage of trying to put him to bed. can anybody give me any advise please??

Sent reply to your inbox. Hope it helps.
Normally try for 12.30 for his nap but sometimes he will fall asleep in the car at half 10 on our way to soft play.
