wont brush her teeth!

hiya my daughtet lily is usually really good with teeth brushing but last 2 or 3 days she just refuses to do it. she's 15 months and very independant- meaning she wont allow ANYONE to do it for her. she's got a back tooth coming up and I've tried bonjela and calgel before teeth brushing and brushing my teeth same time as her but it aint worked and she will simply stand and watch but not brush her own teeth. please help if you can- don't want to make an issue of it- haven't told her daddy for that reason- and don't want to let it drag on! x x

That sounds wicked!! We started brushin my daughters teeth the minute one cut so she is used to it now which is good. Where did u get the singing brush from tho, I'd love ta get one for my girl. xx
got the brush from boots for like £6 or something, they had a high school musical brush too but don't think I could have stomached that twice a day lol. I been brushing lily's teeth (or she has) since she was bout 6 months and never had much of an issue with it til recently. she just seems to through one phase after another, like most kids x x

heyy, i found a good technique to get children to clean their teeth would be to make them a chart and buy some stickers then she can thinks its more fun way and at the end of every week give her a present for it. then sort of lower it until she doesnt need the chart anymore.
good luck :)

Have you tried using a soft piece of muslin to just rub her teeth very gently- you can buy it in kitchen shops. Its softer than a brush- which may be causing pain to her tender gums at then momment.

As I have said before its better to let tooth cleaning lapse for a week or two when children get upset, If you have to force a child you may be creating long term problems.
By forcing her you will at best turn this into a battle ground which could llast for months- she is afterall approaching the terrible twos and the possibility of frequent tantrums and attention seeking. At worst you could give her a real fear of tooth cleaning that could last for years.

Tell yourself her teeth are are only temporary teeth- no great harm will come to her if she does not clean her teeth for a few weeks. Especially if she chews on something like a raw carrot! So stand back and forget cleaning until the middle of January -or when she has cut the back teeth- and then start again- let her choose a new special all singing all dancing toothbrush and new tooth paste.

hi my daughter went like that was putting up a real fight then i found a toothbrush that flashes, my lill girl loves the lill light and brushes her teeth no prob.
like I said before I'll try anything, not least to avoid a tantrum especially now lily has started to fling herself on the floor and kick, scream and bang her fat little fists evrytime she don't get her own way. it started bout 10 days ago and I'm tired of it already! roll on puberty! x x

my 3 year old still does it but i blame myself coz i did make a fuss and it went on longer than it should, she is very independant too and thinks she's 30 not 3! i ended up taking turns so she would do it but every few days 'mummy has a turn' and now she does it first and i finish up with a 'special polish' it took some doing but we got there!! i do it with all the girls now so i know they are done properly and can check THEY are brushing properly too. my eldest can use mouthwash now so i bought the Aquafresh one as it's suitable for milkteeth and as she is almost 7 she has a mixture of adult and baby teeth- but with lots of gaps too-bless!
thanks. sometimes I wish for the days when lily was smaller and let me do all these things for her. she has to do everything herself- it's great she wants to instead of being lazy like I see some older toddlers being when we're in town, but when you have to stand and watch while she insists on putting her feet in the wrong shoes 5 times in as many minutes it wears a bit! x x
