Pushing your children to be over-achievers could have adverse effects.

A leading education expert has suggested that parents who are too pushy could cause damage to their children's development in the long-term. The study suggests that children should be allowed to use their imaginations. One Professor even implied that unless children are encouraged to focus on their social skills from a young age, they're in danger of having problems interacting with others when they're older. What do you think? Is it better that children use their imaginations or should all kids know how to read by the age of 5?

i believe that reading can inspire kids imaginations. my son is 2 and loves books i dont push him to learn too much like reading writing 123's abc;s etc i just make sure that he hears me spell his name or count his toes and we play games doing it and we read for ages everyday. but he has a playroom full of toys to encourange role play and imaginative and creative stuff. i think there should be a balance between it all. xx

Well we have 2 wonderful boys and we have always read, discussed and interacted with them on all subjects. We never classified ourselves as pushy and utilised games to help educate them even more. Everything we did had a fun and practical aspect which enhanced their learning ability and now they are both great orators and our eldest just makes words sing at the tender age of 8 and a great poet. The youngest well he will stand in a crowded room and talk for ages and interact with everyone. I am sure if they are going to be academically brilliant then to a certain extent it is in the genes, but for boys we have found make everything interesting and you will be amazed how much they learn. We also found this great game called WiseUp the other day when checking new review webiste out called www.bizziebaby.co.uk well this game is full of questions about safety at home and outside, and even though a game for children I cannot tell you how much we have learned and it has been a real education for all of us. So just goes to show play has so much to offer. Anyway off to the kitchen now and the boys will be having fun trying out our latest recipe.
