Hi Claire, My daughter Millie was in a harness for 4 months the doctors were worried that her hip was non reducable and she would need an operation to reset the hip but the harness worked to the doctors amazement, she is now 29 months and is happily running around. If you want to talk some more please feel free to contact me. Hope eveything goes ok x
Hi Jackie, thanks for replying. Your story is really positive, I'm so glad Millie is now okay. We have been told that Jada's condition is quite severe and her hip is realyl shallow. We are going back to the consultant on 4 September so I guess we will know more then, she would have been in the harness for 10 weeks by then. Jada has been seeing a physio once a fortnight and she is pleased with her progress. Jada is starting to move her left leg more now when we remove the harness (we can take it off for up to one hour a day which we save for bathtime). This means she is now getting frustrated when we put it back on as she has 'discovered' her feet and wants to play with them! I will keep you posted as to her development. Thanks again - it's great to have someone to chat to! xx
Hi - just joined this group and was hoping for a bit of advice and comfort. Our little girl is being treated for hip dysplasia, she is currently in the harness and entering her 5th week of wearing it. We had an appointment with our consultant last week, which ended up being with the registrar. He was quite negative and wanted to move her into a cast! We were quite shocked by this as we were told that she would wear the harnes for approx 12 weeks and then it would be reviewed. Fortunately the consultant overuled him and said to carry on with the harness for another 6 weeks. I am now really concerned that she will need the cast and can't stop thinking that I won't be able to cope if it gets to that stage. Did anyone else's child have to wear a cast or was the harness successful?

Hi everyone. I ve just started looking for stuff to get for my baby's room. I ve got to say I m a bitg confused. So many different things for the same purpose. Anyway, I d like to know if a crib or a moses basket is better for the first days/weeks for the baby to sleep in. My mom keeps telling me that a basket is better because it is made of softer matgerial, in case the baby happens to hit his head. I dont know what to buy. If any of you have any advice i d love to hear it!
Thanks
Hi, I had a moses basket for my first, who was a girl and very petite and she was in it for 6 months and I found it ideal. As fiona says, great to carry from room to room and very soft. However, when I had my boy, he was only in it for 4 months as he became too big and I then had to put him in the cot, which swamped him. I think it depends on the size of the baby really, but if you can pick up a reasonably priced moses basket, go for one of them as they are so easy to transport around the house.
Thank you both! I appreciate the advice
Hi i had a moses basket for my youngest but didnt find it very practical as it only lasted about ten weeks before she was too big.I had a swinging cradle for my older two and found that much better, with bumpers or the right bedding theres no chance of your little one getting hurt, also a new baby doesnt move very m uch! the cradle lasted untill they were 8 or 9 mths by which time they could actually swing themselves by gently rocking, they then moved onto a cot bed with no problems.
I had a Moses basket for my lo. Good points - light and easy to carry from room to room, soft material like your mum says. Bad points - tend to be smaller than cribs so my lo only lasted in it for 4 months then i had to put him into his cot bed. You might get 6 months or more out of a crib, depending on baby. So good and bad points with everything.
