The worst present my daughter received after she was born was a silk dress (silk? - It had to be dry cleaned for a start) covered in pearly beads that kept falling off. The whole dress was covered in ties and bows and strings and as well as being hideous it was also a choking and strangulation hazard! Needless to say we threw it out!

a giant 4 foot orange and purple dragon, smelly and covered in dog hair. When my brother (14) saw it he said it looked like it was going to eat her. I've managed to hold off it being dropped round so far. My mum has it at her house and she thinks its hideous also.

Also an old fashioned yellow frilly dress with a doily apron, doily hat and knickers, and as i opened it (finding it hard to contain my horror) the gift said "its just perfect for her isn't it"
"oh yes its lovely!" i replied excitedly and i send it off in a bundle of clothes to africa

I do find it a bit of a pain when someone buys just a top or trousers and you have to try and work out where they bought it to get a matching partner to wear with it, or at least trawl the shops to find something half suitable. TBH i only bother if i really really like the item.
These stories are making me laugh out loud - especially Isabel's one about the 4 foot orange and purple dragon!!! Please keep the stories coming, they are brightening up a gloomy day!!

My son was born 2 weeks before Christmas, and he was given a coat for a 6 month old baby and told it was his new baby present and christmas present combined. The coat was so bulky and it only fitted him in the summer time - which was too warm.
its funny, people alway buy clothes for when the child will be much older, when they are born, not thinking when time of the year the child will fit into the clothes. I got so many winter clothes for 6,7,8 months when my son was born but of course it was mid summer when the clother fit him!!!!!

as i have 3 girls we keep getting pink frilly dresses- like pale pinks or really fussy doily type ones! i know they are girls and pink stuff is a given but my god!! people! when we found out this baby was also a girl i was worried cos gary seemed disappointed not to be getting a boy (his last chance-i am never doing this again!) but when i asked him about it he said he wasn't bothered as long as she's ok, he adores the girls and said he would have to be mad not to want another, just he wondered what hideous pink monstrosity we would end up with this time!!

Lily's had some really minging stuff given to her as presents. my mum in law is the worst for it. lots of brown and green- some of the clothes look like I've wiped her bum on them- they are that vile. she is also mega competitive- my mum has knitted some lovely stuff for lil so her other granny tried to out-do her- the result being that I wouldn't dress the dog in her efforts! we also got a dry clean only cashmere sweater. needless to say lily don't often wear anything from granny walton!
