This is what iv done...
My birth partner is my husband and baby’s father, Jack and I would like him to be with me throughout the birth, to support me.
I would like if possible a water birth, I would prefer the monitoring carried out in the pool as I would rather not have to leave the pool for monitoring and would like to use gas and air for pain relief. I would like my husband to be in the pool with me throughout, if this is possible. I would like Jack to pass the baby to me when he is born. And we would like jack to cut the cord.
If I can not have a water birth I want more pain relief than just gas and air.
I wish to breast feed as soon as I can after the birth.
I am fully prepared to accept any advise from staff where the well being of myself or the baby may be compromised, and have no problems with students being present during the birth.
We are happy for a blood glucose test and vitamin K to be administered to the baby if this is advised by staff. And any other procedures if they are necessary.
Where there is a need for any intervention for the safety of myself or the baby I would like Jack present throughout. Ie in the need for an emergency C section.
sounds really good to me - good luck! xx

Hi

I agree I pretty much want to go with the flow and therefore have used a tick box template plan I found on the internet (HIPPs I think). I am up for listening to the advice of the medical staff but found it useful to be able to put in writing "ask my husband if he wants to cut the cord"

I keep asking him at the moment and he say's he can't really think about it - I don't want him to miss out if he changes his mind, and I know damn well he won't be brave enough to say on the day. Putting it in the planhas helped me feel more relaxed about the whole thing and know now that he will be given the opportunity regardless of what he decides to do on the day.

Be a bit careful of the templates on the internet though - the american ones can scare you as obviously they need to have more information seeing that they pay for everything!!

It definately is good to go in with an open mind, but it is also good to have some kind of targets to work to because when your in labour your mind doesn't work properly and if you can hold on to why you made the choices that you did when in saine mind it helps you. What I mean is I knew I would be sick if I took gas and air but I was in so much pain that if I hadn't made the decsion previously not to take it and clung to that, I would of gievn in and ended up being more sick than I was without it anyway!

I also didn't want an epidural but I agreed to have one in the end, which helped me no end. So it works both ways, you'll know when or if your body can't take anymore and at that point sometimes you have to give in! xx
ye i totally agree there.my only thing was i did NOT want an episiotomy no matter what.i would have and still do prefer the idea of tearing because every medical professional and woman whos done it says it heals quicker but i ended up having to have that and oh ye i said i didnt want an epidural either but ended up having that too.lol.i really do think its important to go in with an open mind because even if youve done it before, every labour is different and just because you might have had something last time doesnt mean youl have it agin.etc.
i can honestly say im going in asking for an epidural this time!lol. good luck hun, youll be fine, its remarkable how us women cope but we do.if a man did it then it really would be a different story!
