My daughter is 23 weeks old. Since she was around 8 weeks old she has been making shuddering movements. They started off as the usual little shudders that everyone does (when you get that weird feeling down your spine and you'd say "Someone just walked over my grave"). They were every now and again and very cute. Now, they vary in severity. She seems to do it all the time now, sometimes one after the other and she looks like she's uncomfortable and can't control it. It almost looks painful but more like a nervy type of pain and she clenches her fists really tightly. It's beginning to worry us and I just wondered if anyone else has seen the same thing. We are seeing a HV tomorrow and possibly a doctor if we get the answer we think we'll get ("oh, she'll grow out of it"!!)
the movements noticed from 8 weeks seems normal as babies shiver/walked over grave when they are having a wee.. the latest movememts are a bit worrying so it's good that you are getting it checked. she could just be weeing more often though.
Hi Nifa. HV said we should just keep an eye on it but she doesn't think it's anything neurological. Olivia did her shudder thing a couple of times while we were in there but they were the mild ones so the HV didn't get to see the bad ones, which did make me feel a bit like a neurotic mother. My partner and I are going to get her checked out by our GP next week anyway just to be on the safe side.
If in doubt it is best to take your daughter to see a GP straight away who can rule out anything more serious and help put your mind at rest. Let us know how you got on.
