Superskinny!

Did anyone see supersize superskinny on tuesday night? There has only been one girl on tht programme that is lighter than me! The Tuesday night episode showed a young nurse who weighed in at 6stone 8 pound and is 5ft 3". I weigh 6 stone 6 pound at 5ft 3". Her periods had stopped but mine hasn't but I am obviously concerned as I am trying for a baby and have been so for almost 8 months now. I just don't seem to be able to put weight on. I am eating the same size meals as my huband who is roughly 15-16 stone in weight. I pride myself on eating a balanced diet which consists of a good breakfast of toast or cereal with fruit juice and tea. Lunch is usually a full meal of pasta and meatballs, rice and spicy chicken. Tea always has veg like green beans, carrots, peas. I also graze throughout the day at work on apples, chocolate, yoghurt. I am regularly known to demolish a full 5 course Indian takeaway or full english breakfast but the weight will not go on! I once got up to 7 stone but that was through drinking too much guiness as a teenager which is not advisable when TTC! Any suggestions as to how I can put healthy weigh on safely? I do have quite a shocking family history of high cholesterol and premature death - sorry for being morbid!

For some people putting on weight is very difficult and you are not alone.
However from the information above your BMI would be well below the healthy
weight range and this can be linked with infertility and other health problems.
I would suggest that you book an appointment with your GP to discuss this and
check your cholesterol levels as these are a concern for you. A referral to a
Dietitian may be appropriate to further investigate your diet and activity
levels and see what would be a healthy weight for you and devise a plan to help
you reach this weight. Being a healthy weight when conceiving is very
important as being too heavy or too thin can adversely affect your pregnancy
and the long term health of your baby.
I have always been this size though, there hasn't been a sudden weight loss. It was viewing the programme and witnessing the other peoples weights that got me thinking. Could it not be that I a naturally meant to be this way? My dad is very slight built and I am the same height as him. Does BMI take into account your build? My husband is classed as morbidly obese and he is naturally well built and muscular but is probably much fitter than folk further down the scale.
I have never experienced any health problems due to my size - if anything I have always been told by doctors I very healthy. I never get coughs or colds and never missed a days work in almost two years. I consider myself to have an excellent diet and I love my food. When I suffered kidney failure as a child I was sent to a dietician and I must admit they actually made me feel worse. I was told I was anorexic and pigeon holed into believing I had an eating disorder which I actually never had. What they didn't see was that I was tiny before the kidney failure. The kidney failure was caused by food poisoining.
Does this mean that if I am always meant to be this way trying for a baby at anytime will be irresponsible and so I must remain childless?

Further to this - I have had my weekly weigh in and put on a pound and a half! Now 6 stone 7.5 pounds. Changed my diet by snacking on cheese during the day and drinking glasses of whole milk.

Really chuffed!!!!

She did have issues and I was quite mortified because I get shoved into that stereotype cos I'm really skinny too.
Ma and Pa (Pa particularly) are slight built and both same height as me at 5ft 3". I was never meant to be big built but seeing programmes like that panic me!
