damp found in my 3 year olds bedrrom!!

my partner and i are decorating our 3 year old sons bedroom, we moved the canvas wardrobe and discovered a huge patch of damp that had rotted the wallpaper and the wall was crumbling, i phoned our housing association and was told that i would probably have to wait for upto 5 weeks for someone to come out to just look at it, meanwhile our son is sleeping on a mattress on our bedroom floor, the cough he's had for a while (which we put down to being part of a cold he couldn't shift) has started to disappear, that room was making my little boy ill and im being told 5 weeks!!!!! im so angry!! is there anything else i can do?? has anyone got any advice?? im also 25 weeks pregnant wiv slightly high blood presure and this aint helping!! any advice would be welcome. thanks.

i was in a room which could only fit a double bed in, when i decorated..i notice the entire lower half of the wall was covered in damp and it had spread to my mattress and bed base! my landlord simply told me to wash it away with bleach and even had a go at me, saying it was my fault and to keep the windows open with the heating on! landlords will do anything to avoid rehousing or costs..go to your doctors, take a photo of the damp and get them to write a letter to the landlord or enclose a doctors statement in a letter. I ended up being evicted because i was apparently at fault for the damp and other things my lan lord neglected to do. Take no shit! xx

Surely by law they must do something, the landloards are supposed to keep the place liveable if not take further action go to your local citizen advice and see what they say. I am sure they could help. If not Your counceller for your area is letting you down very badly.

I know its bad but at least you have that option, we live in a rented house we pay £600 a month! and its full of mould, does the land lord want to know? nope!!! and we were left with no heating/ hot water for the best part of a week before christmas and we cant get any help from our housing association just have to keep trying to get ourself on the list
i would look at moving elsewhere, if nothing else your land lord will get a fright- no one wants to lose money at the moment and you can tell him why you want to move- he may get scared into doing it! tell him he's got a week to fix it or you're going to move and report him for neglecting your basic needs and more importantly your child's, also threaten him with going to the local paper if that doesn't scare him then he has no conscience and you should definitely move, good luck x

hi all, the housing association came today and surpise surprsie said there was nothing they could do as it wasn't damp it was condensation!!! but we do have a solution, i spent £14 and this is what i bought, a polycell mould spray that kills all the mould and the spores and seals the wall, and a tin of ordinary bathroom paint with mould guard in it, which i am assured by the guys at B&Q is enough to keep the mould at bay as it creates a film over the affected area. hope this helps some of you cos the councils are all prats!xx
