10 year gap?

Hi Im 30 in July and my partner and i have decided that the time is right for us to have our 1st child together. I have a son who will be 10 in August and was wondering if there is anyone out there who is either in the same position or has been in the past etc. Last month was our 1st month trying and as it didnt happen right away im thinking negatively such as is it our age (partner is 36) and what if it doesnt happen. Also can anyone tell me what it is like to have such a large gap between children.

My Dad's sisters are 18, 16 and 13 years older than him, meaning he's always been a lot more like a brother to their children than to his sisters! But they still get on alright. I think in a loving family age gaps don't really matter too much, you'll all get along nicely most of the time and of course there'll be the odd argument as they get older, but what siblings don't have that? I bet the 10 year old will be really excited and at least old enough to understand and be mature about it, unlike a 3 or 4 year old who won't really know how to handle any jealous feelings. Good luck, it's a very exciting time and I hope everything goes well!

Hi, I was nearly 30 when i had my 3rd son, i already had 2 sons from a previous relationship and my eldest was 11, he was a great help and sometimes i didn't know what i would do without him :-)

Now i'm having baby no4 and my eldest is now 14, i also have a 10 year old and a 3 year old.

I'm sure that everything will be fine for you, good luck with TTC!!!! xxx

There is 12 years between me & my little bro. My mum was 16 when she had me so waited a while for the next one! I was made up when he came along as I hated being an only child. Good luck x

I am 26 weeks pregnant and i have an 8 year old daughter. It took me and my husband (aged 34) 3 years to get pregnant. I think it is going to be hard work in many aspects, but at least my 8 year old can do a lot of for herself so is not as needy. Me and my husband have talked at length about how we will have to make sure that she still gets attention and private days out with us as well as family days out. There are pros and cons for small and large gaps. I am involving my daughter in choosing everything for the bbay and she even helped paint the nursery, that way she doe snot feel left out. Good luck and i hope all goes well for you.

Im on number 5 (lol), my eldest is 16, i also have a 10 yr old. Alice (16) is so excited and has been wonderful in helping me prepare for Teddy's arrival (due 20th may). Tom (10) cant wait and is planning to be a hands on big brother.
You will be fine and in many ways it much easier than having little ones and a baby. As for age?? sod it lol..my sister just had her second and she is 40..her hubby is 50 and it took just a couple of months.

went to school with a lad who's little bro was 10 years younger than him and think they got on fine- as well as any siblings do i imagine! think it depends on how you handle it- make welcoming the new addition a positive experience and reassure your child there may be some changes but you will try and keep things as normal as possible, ie any clubs they go to etc. we had no4 recently and i was adamant things would stay the same for the other 3 ie same toddlers, pizza night on fridays, swimming lessons etc. i tried to get things back to normal as soon as i could after she had been born, which was good for me too as it got us into a routine almost straight away! good luck xx

There'll be a ten year gap between this one, due in two weeks and my youngest daughter.
I married my husband after being single for 8 years, i'm 31 and he's 38. It took us about 5 months to get pregnant but we weren't making a point of 'trying' we just said it'll happen when the time is right.

My husband is so excited this is his first, My other children are 14 and 10 and can't wait to have another little one to fuss over. They live with their dad and stay with us on weekends.

Don't stress abotu getting pregnant too much hun like me you know you can get pregnant, you have teh proof, just take your time enjoy the baby dance and i'm sure you'll be posting a big fat positive on here before ya know it!

Good luck x x
