My 1st proper check up with the Midwife = Blood test = Rhesus negative

I have my first proper check up with the Midwife tomorrow but i'm getting sooo nervous when i think about it as i know what's coming!! This is my 4th baby and i am rhesus negative, i am sooo scared of needles and cry like a baby when i know that it has to be done, it takes me a while to calm myself as i get into such a state. I feel that i can't look forward to my check as the thought of having a blood test is overtaking everything else. Everyone who is rhesus negative will know what it's like to constantly have needles jabbed into you for blood or the anti-D!! When you are scared of needles it is a million times worse, the last thing that i want is to forget the enjoyment of the Midwife checks when i always have to have a needle, is anyone in the same boat as me? Do you feel the same when it comes to blood tests and injections? How do you cope?? xxx

Ive just come back from hosp 4 the Gestational Diabetes test. 2 midwives failed to find a vein in my left arm and just about managed to get blood from my right. They said I must be running on fresh air on my left side lol...always reassuring!!

same here just seems to be a fear that ive developed and now its got totally out of hand. i cant even hold bradley for his injections its either been my boyfriend or my auntie went with me the first time i felt physically sick hearing him scream xx
I does seem like a fear that has built up from nowhere and yes like you it has got out of hand too. I know how you feel about taking your son for injections as i feel the same, i can't get away from it as i have always had to take Caleb myself but never look and when he does cry i'm racked with so much guilt as i know how it makes me feel, xx

I always asked to lie down for the first one. I'm known to faint having blood taken!! I also explained to my midwife about hating needles and she always used to try her best to keep me relaxed by chating to me (usually about tv the night before)!!! She also tried to get the bloods done first so I could then relax rather than sit there wondering when it was going to happen. I would talk it through with your midwife. Also there's something called rescue remedy which you can buy in chemists and health shops thats good for calming nerves. You would have to check the packaging to check it's safe for use in pregnancy. Good luck x
I have never fainted but always feel really sick and so anxious, i get myself so worked up that i struggle breathing. I start crying like a big baby and do feel like an idiot after it's done for getting so worked up about it, lol...

I just don't understand why i feel that way about needles as i never used to when i was young? I can't remember anything traumatic that has happened to me ever that has something to do with needles? xxx

i heard about a girl who wanted a general anaesthetic for a blood test which is stupid cos not only do you need a needle for that but u also need a blood test beforehand :S weird
LOL... That is sooo funny, i just can't stop laughing, thankfully i'm not that bad, LOL...
