My son is 16 weeks now but at around 8 weeks old he started screaming day and night, it could take hours to settle him and at some stages it was really hard to cope with but at 10 weeks old he got diagnosed with gastric reflux and put on Infant Gaviscon which he has put in every other bottle and we feed him so his near enough sitting up (we was advised that it would help). Since giving him the gaviscon i can't believe what a difference it has made his now like a totally different baby!
Its great that the treatments working for you. I have a friend who's baby responded well to gaviscon also so it clearly works and is worth trying. My baby is on gaviscon in every feed which is definately keeping alot more of his feed down and also on renitidine and domperidone which works but the peadiatrition he sees has had to increase his medications as he had a bad case of it. Ive read it doesnt do them any harm if they need it but i was worried about what it could do long term as i was advised by the nurse to give him calpol continuously 4 times a day at 4 weeks old but he doesnt need it much now. I took him to see a cranial osteopath to try the natural root while i was waiting for a referal but after 4 sesions and on the reccomendation of my hv chose the treatment root. He used to cry and cry from two till 6 in the morning, then most of the morning, then from 5 till 11 in the evening. He would sip his food all day but refuse any more so he was always hungry, when he took more he would be sick and his breath always smelt of stomach acid where it was coming up into his mouth. He was screaming in pain so much but the doctor kept sending me home saying it was colic and a tummy bug but it was unbearable for my baby to watch and it felt like the worst feeling in the world seeing him in pain and feeling completely useless. He is a very happy little boy now and his quality of life has improved dramatically although we still have bad days like any body else and i worry for a moment the meds arent working. Do you find your little boy prefers lying on his tummy or side rather than his back, my little one hates it on his back. I feed my baby sitting up right and carry him in a sling under the advise of hv. Ive looked at foam wedges but i dont know if there would be something else worth investing in.ive elevated his bed before and when they were diagnosing him, the hospital cot was very slanted overnight and it didnt seem to help but the nurses had to take him because he had been crying for hours and was waking the other children. He didnt settle untill they gave him calpol, then they gave him back and told me to just do that.its great that you found out what was wrong because not knowing why they are in pain is so hard to cope with. Im releaved its something that he will grow out of and we were lucky to get it sorted early as my friends little boy had it for 7 months and doctors didnt know what was wrong utill she paid to see a specialist because she wasnt getting any where and his reflux was severe.
