pre-eclampsia

I was talking to my mum last night and she said that she had pre-eclampsia when she was pregnant with me and because of that I was born 10 weeks early, I am only 7-8 week but I am a little worried. Has anyone has this? x

I had pre-eclampsia with my son, got took into hosp at 37 weeks and they decided to induce me 3 days later, and broke my waters but the poor mite went into distress basically because he didn't want to come yet lol, and his head was too big for me to pass, he was a big baby at 9lb 3 1/2. Anyway i ended up with c section, as long as ur baby and urself are ok i think that is all that should matter, even if he does have to be delivered a little earlier than planned xxx

I had severe pre eclampsia in my last pregnancy. I was sent to hospital by my GP at 27+5 because by blood pressure was really high. I was admitted immediately and transferred to a specialist hospital as they said Lucas needed to be delivered straight away. He was born by emergency caesarian at 27+6 weighing 770grams. He weighed so little because the pre eclampsia had stopped him growing. I got alot more poorly after he was born as the pre eclampsia doesn't just dissapear after baby is born. However I didn't write this to scare you, I have since been told that pre eclampsia is a possibility in all pregnancies due to it being linked to the placenta. Pre eclampsia is very common in its mildest form ie swollen ankles and fingers, high blood pressure and headaches, but those things would mean that they monitored you closely not necessarily delivering the baby straight away. The severe pre eclampsia that can cause you to have fits and even die is VERY rare and the people caring for you will understand your fears if you talk to them. I am not nearly 6 weeks pregnant again and have been told I could get pre eclampsia again but it would most likely be less severe and later in my pregnancy. Good luck and try not to worry xx

I had pre-eclampsia with josh. I found out id had it at 37 weeks, i went straight to hospital and they put me on the labour ward, at first they tried to get my blood preasure down by medication, that was working ok and they constantly monitered josh to see if he was ok and i had a scan, i stayed in hospital for one week then they decided to induce him, it took three tries because it wasnt working, so instead they broke my waters for me, and gave me a drug to start contractions and all was ok then :). The only thing about it is that because of my high blood preasure i couldnt opt for a water birth and i had to be constantly attached to a blood preasure machine during labour, they took my blood preasure every two minutes so after 9 and a half hours i felt like my hand was going to burst open :|. but other than that all was fine really. oviously it's better if you dont get it but if you do it's not really such a terrible thing because they deal with this kind of thing every day and they know what they're doing :) xxx

I looked it up on Google and it said that it can run in the family. That is a very scary thing to happen to you sister hope she is okay now. :)

my sister had it and ended up putting on 7 stone, after 34 weeks she could hardly walk and her skin was so tight it looked like it was going to burst, she couldn't get out of the bath or walk upstairs she was so uncomfortable, but the hospital left her and weren't very good at all, my neice was actually 6 days overdue and it was a horrific labour she had to be induced twice and nothing was working, she had a reaction to the spinal block which stoped her breathing and she nearly died during the crash c-section. she loves her daughter to bits but she said she will never have another child because she is just too scared. i don't mean to scare you and as far as i know it doesn't run in the family, but if they do find it make sure you look after yourself and the doctors give you the care you deserve, i nearly lost my sister and because of it i refuse to be treated or deliver my baby in the same hospital.
