Hi my little boy developed colic when he was a few weeks old. We tried cranial osteopathy as i had a caesarian delivery when he got stuck when he turned back to back. Ive heard this can be brilliant for babies in general and especially babies that have had a difficult birth. We found we needed to try other things as he also suffered from acid reflux which made things more complicated. We tried infacol which he really didnt like, which is said to bring all the bubbles of gas together to create a big burb to relieve the discomfort. Im told dentinox works in the same way. we found colief more effective at the time although much more expensive but worth a try. This one breaks down the enzimes in the milk and makes it more digestible i believe. it seemed to help but it needs to go in the milk of bottle fed babies half an hour before a feed, which is difficult if you cannot plan the next feed.(im sorry i dont know if it is useful for breastfeed babies) . since getting the reflux under control with medication, we find infacol to now be much more effective and only needs to be given on colic days rather than every day incase your baby is colicy that day. check with your health visitor though before any treatment as they can give you sound advice on what to try. The internet is helpful too and massage is supposed to be brilliant which we are doing in the evening but i think it takes time because my little one struggles still. He is now 3 months old which i hear is the time it eases off as their digestive system is more mature but its difficult to see an end when they are so uncomfortable and nothing seems to be working effectively enough.
Both my boys suffered from bad colic - my little girl did not. When my second little boy had passed the colic stage, I read something that said, if your baby is breast fed, reducing the amount of milk in your own diet can help. At the time it was too late to see if it helped.
When my little girl came along I tried it. I still had milk but not a lot or anything very milky or cheesy.
It worked I never used a single drop of Infacol for her. Maybe she would not have suffered any way or maybe it made the difference.
It could be worth a try it can't do any harm.
Our little girl suffered from dreadful colic, when she was smaller (fortunately she's outgrown it now) a doctor friend suggested Calpol when you're desperate and also if their tummy is really bloated then try blowing it very gently with a warm hairdryer - we never tried it, but he swears by it. Hope it helps.
my baby boy suffered with terrible colic and i tried EVERYTHING!!! the only thing that workrd for me was a herbal remedy you can buy in boots behind the counter.its called Colocynthis, its little crystals that you put on the tongue..........AMAZING results from the first use!!!!!!!!!! GOAND BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
hi mrsslimming i left a message in the baby crying at night box saying what i would say on this chat thread to, my little boy was exactly the same as you described and alongside what i did (on the other thread) i gave less than a teaspoon of prune juice and that really helped. Also thought about cranial osteopathy but with the stuff i did he stopped being miserable a nd upset in the evenings. Infacol helped slightly as it helped to bring up wind however igripe water, colief etc didn't do anything and made him worse, giving finley small amount of solids from six weeks, giving him hungrier milk formula in his last feed, easing his constipation if you can call it htat with prune juice all seemed to help, although i didn't try it brown sugar and water can also help, but i found cooled boilde water seemd to work well enough for me. Hopefully this and what i posted on the thread baby cries alot at night it my help you.
hi our daugher appears to suffer from bad trapped wind or sometimes what looks like consipation - pain with bowel movements and poo resembling play dough often in small amounts, she appears to suffer mostly through the night. Tonight she hasn't slept since waking at 9pm and we're stil awake approaching 5 am! This is stressful for us aswell as her as we feel unable to settle her, lying her over our lap temporarily helps as does walking her around but it seems strange how this doesn't affect her during the day and yet there's no difference in what we do. I sympathise with you and feel willing to try anything at the moment!
