Need advice on being overdue and having a sweep...??

I'm 5 days overdue, I was due on March 11th. My midwife said last week that if I would like a sweep tomorrow, at my next appointment, she could do it for me. I'm really unsure what to decide. I've been having twinges for a while now, but in the day they seem very irregular and not very strong. My partner and I had sex the other night and around 7:30pm I started getting severe backache, I went to bed at 10:30pm with a hot water bottle and started timing my contractions, whether they were real or Braxton's I don't know... But they were every 10 mins (approx) and each 1 lasted around a minute. I came on here in the night to talk to other mums and everyone said it sounded like the real thing, but eventually I fell asleep and woke up at 5am with not even the tiniest backache or cramp!! I was gutted. So I think the sex must have caused that. Now I'm unsure as to have the sweep tomorrow or not... Did anyone find it helped, or are they no use at all? Do they hurt? Is it uncomfortable? Should I just let nature do it's thing and wait?? I am booked to be induced on March 23rd. I would appreciate lots of opinions! Thanks xx

hi well personly id go for the sweep its worth a try, it must be better than being induced i hated it as your attatched to machines to monitor baby so you are very restricted to the the bed. i can handle pain better if im ableto pace the floor lol but everyones different, plus your contractions are ment to be stronger and longer when your induced

I had the whole 'contractions starting' about a week ago from about 7:30 pm till I went to bed at about midnight, lasting about 40-60 secs every 15 mins or so. They kept me awake for a few hours then next thing it was morning so I'd fallen asleep and they'd stopped :( And I haven't had anything else since!! The period type ache is getting stronger but comes and goes. No show or anything, I'm getting worried now about the sweep not working and having to be induced... And I was only due yesterday!! I'm such a worrier!! xx

If your already experiencing a few twinges then definatly go for a sweep..it might help move things on :) i had two sweeps and still needed to be induced but prob coz he was eleven pounds eleven and nothing on earth was gonna get him out! (had c)..

It sounds like you're in labour to me!!
Have you phoned your midwife? If not I would give her a call and get assessed by her. She may feel that you are still able to stay at home or that she would like to check you over.
Good luck hopefully not long know.

Maybe I'll wait and see... I think I'm gonna go for it. It can't be all that bad or so many people wouldn't have it done, it's just the wondering afterwards of how long it will be before anything starts and whether it'll actually start or not!
I'll keep you updated :)
Aw bless you, well I'm due today and had a bit of period like pain last night for a few hours but it's gone away. Got midwife thurs then sweep Mon - and I will definately go for the sweep of nothing's happened! I need this baby out! Every little squirm is now really hurting! Good luck babyroberts3! xx
