Hi, I had SPD with my first pregnancy but was constantly told it was sciatica and that there was nothing they could do. With my 2nd pregnancy I was in Sweden and at 15 weeks began to find it a struggle to get in and out of bed. The pain was unbearable. By the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy I was on crutches and signed off from work on sick leave. I couldn't lift my 2yr old or anything else really. In sweden I had water physio which helped only whilst in the water as it took all the weight off my body and the pool was heated to 37 degrees. I also had a special maternity belt and a glider to help me turn over in bed and also to get in/out. They even gave me a swivel thing to get in and out of the car. My mid-wife said that the pain should go away almost immediately after the birth but it didn't. In fact, if you are breast-feeding then you are likely to have just as much pain due to the same hormones being released into your body. Now it is approx 18wks since I have had my son but I am still struggling to walk any distance and I am also finding it hard to lift him sometimes. I have just started doing some deep core strengthening exercises to see if this will help.
Hi there, i had spd while pregnant and expected it to clear up when i gave birht, although it has improved considerably i still cant walk very far certainly not like i used to because i can hardly raise my legs after and also i cant lie on my side for any length of time as it hurts too much. Has anyone still had SPD after giving birth and did it eventually clear up? Thanks x
Hi I give birth to twins on 12 July last year. Before the birth I suffered terribly with SPD. Some days i could just not walk for the pain, I couldn't drive from about 5/6 months as it was so uncomfortable to get in and out of the car. I still have it one year on! I can walk fine, its when I stop & sit down and try to get back up, I seeze up, not for long, but for that few mins I struggle to walk and straighten up. The mornings are a nightmare coming down the stairs! My legs will just not bend. In the last 2 weeks my arms are so weak in the morning I can hardly lift the babies! my dr has prescriped ibprofen for 2 wks, if that is not successful he will prescrip stronger and refer me to physio. Anyone experienced anything similar?
heya i have spd when i first got it i couldnt walk, had my back done by my chiroprator and that really helped i could feel how out my pelvis and pubic bones are. asked my mid-wife about physo and she said that it wont help that much so she has refurede me to get a fembrace, they are bands that hold your pelvis bones together, will let you know how i get on. has anyone had any other help?

Hi
mine only cleared up couple of weeks ago and my baby is now 8 months. It still bothers me sometimes in the gym and during streching but not in every day life anymore. I didn't actually know it's an condition until after the birth as I just though everyone get those pains...I couldn't sleep, sit on a hard chair, get into the car or up the stairs but it didn't come to my mind it would be anything but "normal joys of the bregnancy". How stupid of me, eh :)
Hi, I suffered from SPD at the end of my second pregnancy though not at all with my first. I went to my GP about it but they did nothing as they didn't think I had it due to the fact I wasn't too bad walking, it was extremely bad at night. My osteopath gave me some exercises that helped a bit. I experienced it for a while after giving birth but I'm fine now. I occasionally get the odd twinge here and there in my left hip and can't stretch that leg very well out to the side.
I've heard that once you have it you'll get it in subsequent pregnancies - does anyone know if that's true?
hello,
I'm currently 30 weeks into my second pregnancy with SPD. I go quite regularly to the chiropractor, as he helped last time, although I only went to see him right at the end.
My chiropractor specialises in pregnant women, and says that if you have it once you'll have it for the next one. In my first pregnancy I was fine until about 28 weeks, in this one I first got symptoms at 12 weeks, and at the moment I am being very careful as I don't want to be totally incapacitated with a toddler.
Hope this doesn;t sound too depressing!
Liz

My Son is now 19weeks old, I was induced due to my spd and spent the following 3 weeks after he was born having physio and living on crutches.. Samuel was my 2nd child and I had no problems with my first! the spd has caused my muscles in my bum to spasm (think as they were supporting the pregnancy more then they should) so dr gave me anti inflam tablets and I lived on hot water bottles. It has cleared up but i struggle to cross my legs for too long or lie on my side as I get dull aches.. Dr has said to go back if not cleared up completely by 6 to 9mths after baby and then they'll put me back through physio. I can now walk far and enjoy most of the activities I did before - just the dull aches I get now rather then the hurting.. Hope this helps..
