I wrote to my employer and convinced them that I would still be of value (prove that you can work effectively) they have to reply and let you know then formerly why not. If I'm needed at busy times I have agreeded to take on extra hours to cover the work load. It is hard for both employer and employee to get the balance, and I feel like my career has taken a knock but at least I still have my job. If they still need you full-time than a job share could be the solution here?

Good luck fingers crossed for you!

Have you discussed the possibility of a job share with your employer? It is not suitable for all types of work. It is quite self explanatory really, it just means that the job is shared between two or more people. Your employer may be surprised how many applicants they will get who are in a similar situation to you. Also, I am under the impression that employers have to, where possible, allow for mothers returning to work and have to give a very good reason why they can't be flexible over working hours. If you are not happy with the response from your union, speak to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau.

I'm planning to go back to work next month as well with less hours. I was under the impression that in the UK you have a right to ask for flexible working time and your employer has to provide proper reasons as to why or why not that cannot fulfil that. Did they give you a proper reason why they couldn't allow you to work full time?
