My daughter woke up screaming last night and when I went into her room she was shaking all over and seemed really scared. Is it possible that she could be experiencing nightmares, or is she scared of the dark? Please help!

I bought a dreamcatcher to put in my toddler's bedroom and told her that it catches bad dreams like bubbles and makes them pop and disappear. If she still has bad dreams we 'empty' the dreamcatcher out the window. It seems to give her a level of control and lets her talk rationally about her dreams during the day.

Hi there if it was a one off then it was probably a nighmare-such a shame they are too wee for nightmares!!!!Hollys had a couple and she doesnt watch tv so it was nothing scary that had actually frightened her, just like we dont understand our dreams she wont either. A cuddle and a drink usually does the trick i find and dont be alarmed its all natuaral and chances are she wont remember it next day

It sounds as if your daughter might be having a nightmare. This has happened to my two year old several times. I think they're also sometimes called 'night terrors' and they've often occurred if she's watched something scary on tv. Try to make sure your child doesn't watch anything scary before going to bed and if you're reading her a story, make sure there aren't any frightening characters like witches or monsters. When Lara has a nightmare, I just give her a cuddle and a glass of milk and that seems to settle her. Good luck!
