Risk assessment (i no longer have to make the tea, YAY)

I've not had my formal risk assessment yet but have just been told that i am no longer allowed to make the teas and coffee's for everyone in the office three times a day as its dangerous for me to be walking down the stairs with the tray as i cant see the stairs (not that what i can or cant see has actually changed, but i shan't complain, i now dont have to play butler) just wondering if anyone has had a risk assessment done at work and what kinds of things were suggested? i only work in an office so i cant think of anything else, but i am very happy about the tea thing! Staceydoo, if you read this, you should try it, then they might stop gettin you to play butler too? lol also any opinions people have about maternity leave, as in when to take it and all that kinda stuff would be of interest to me, i'm still undecided/don't know if i can afford to finish when i originally planned..... xx

It depends on your contract, most dont allow for carrying over leave in case of sickness, so this is how you lose out, rather than as a result of pregnancy - so I am told by HR anyway
I work in HR and most contracts usually have an exceptional circumstances clause in them that allows holiday to be carried over or paid for if you are unable to take it, ie on mat leave! If yours doesn't then you should get legal advise cos the law states that you should not be made any worse of for being or having been pregnant and if they dont allow you to take your holiday when you blatently couldn't then I think that counts as making you worse off!

I had a risk assesment done when I was preg last time. I worked in an office. They told me I could not fill the copier with paper (much to heavy) make tea as kitchen was to far away, and advised not to use the toilet in our office as you had to go up and down really steap stairs to get there and back. It would have been fine but have you ever met a pregnant woman who did not need the loo 20 times a day?

I had to have 2 risk assessments as i work in a prison (in the office) but nothing changed at all as i'm stuck at a desk all day. Went on maternity leave at the earliest chance but now i hate that i have to go back when Alex is only 6 months. Next time i'm gonna work as long as i can so i have more time at the other end xx

Hi, if your leave year ended while you was on mat leave you should have been paid for it. Your company could have agreed to let you take at the end of your mat leave depending on how long was left in the year...but you most definitley should not have lost it!!!

Hi There Just in case you dont know, I got caught out doing this last time. I ended up ill about 4 weeks before my due date with a preg related thingie, so work forced me to go on mat leave righ then. Because my leave year ended while I was off, I ended up loosing my leave completely! Just be careful Donna

Hi Kittsenger!

Yes my work did an assessment, altho they didnt say i could get out of the tea making!! - they just checked my desk and said that if i need a more comfy chair etc to let them know...thought i might get out of the filing as its a lot of bending and stretching, but it wasant offered....dont think they are to worried :o(

I remember you saying before you had a headache, they are a pain arent they....mine (touch wood) have seemed to have gone

Im working up to 2 weeks before im due, then using annual leave, so my maternity leave kicks in around my due date....i did this as my mat leave is reallt pants, 6 weeks at 90%, then 33 weeks at stat....seems so long away....roll on October :o)

Hope you feel better soon xx
