Could anyone help me with a dilemma i have? My twin boys are 18 weeks old and are a little behind a term baby,
I am wondering when will i see signs that they are requiring more than just their milk which being premature is Nutriprem 2
Gurgle expert Liz Costagliola says 'Hi we now recommend not weaning until babies are 6 months old. Under this age a baby’s digestive system is not mature enough to tolerate anything other than milk and early weaning can cause health problems. Babies do go through growth spurts and it can appear that milk isn’t satisfying them, but if you just continue to feed on demand then baby will settle once he has finished the growth spurt.
Hope this answers your question. Liz'
And also my twins are still on nutriprem 2. and will be until they are 1 apparently but my consultant didnt say i couldnt start weaning them x
I weaned my prem twins at 4 months and they were great and now eat 3 meals a day and two snacks and only have two bottles.
I treat them like any other baby rather than prems.
xx
Hi,
Weaning is recommended to start as close to 6 months as possible.
The signs to look out for are mentioned by Tregidgo and they usually happen around 5-6months.
Speak with your health visitor if you are considering doing it earlier. She may also be running some weaning classes for you to go to.

I didn't wean my daughter until the suggested 6 months, which was when she was watching us eat, interested in our food, getting hungrier, starting to sit up etc, all the suggested signs to look out for. I wouldn't rush weaning them as early weaning can lead to problems which your health visitor can discuss with you x
