Excessive thirst

Hi, I am nearly 31 weeks pregnant and have noticed over the last few weeks that I have been getting more and more thirsty and seem to be drinking a lot of fluid throughout the day. Is this normal? Any advice would be grateful received! Thanks

Gestational diabetes is usually detected at 28 wks +. Mine was at 28 wks, may be it can be at 26 wks, Gestational diabetes is type 2 and no where as serious as type 1. Many people are diabetic and it can go undetected so try not to worry ok. Any concerns ur midwife can answer for u. Like I said u will be monitored closely and u can give birth normally. I did at 38 wks. Some have a section, but u will unlikely go full time. DONT WORRY!!!!!!

Oh one more thing - I did do the glucose test at about 26 weeks as my docs do this a routine - if it is diabetes can it develop after this time? Or would it have showed up then?
i don't know hun if you were fine at 26 wks then chances are you still will be so perhaps your just more thirsty and it's completely normal but if u get checked again at least it can put your mind at ease. x

That is what I was thinking. My next Midwife appointment is on Monday Morning (although it is with a doc) do you think it is OK to wait until then?
i don't know hun i don't wanna scare u but if i was u i might just try n speak to someone a bit sooner if possible, my nephew was having really excessive thirst wen he was just 3 n after a few days my sister took him to hospital n he was on the verge of a diabetic coma, obviously it was a differant situation as he has type 1, so don't stress but it's better to have it checked sooner rather than later don't know about where u live but the chemists round here do a blood sugar test for free where they just do a finger pr!ck test n it measures your sugar levels which can show if there could be a problem might be worth asking about anyway i'm sure you'll be fine so try not to worry too much. xxx

I had gest diabetes and the signs are, thirst, goin to to pee often and also excessive weight gain. Ur midwife can explain a GTT where u have to fast from 10pm previous night, then have a blood test before u drink a glucose drink, wait for 2 and half hrs then another blood test to determine whether ur bodies insulin absorbs it. It'll be a few days to get the results. I was injecting Insulin 4 times a day, dont worry its now getting more common than before. Pls try not too worry, it can be sorted and if any of u r diabetic, u will have weekly growth scans and will be monitored closely. Hope this helps anyone, oh another clue is also if u have had a previous big baby too!!!
