Have now realised the bottle teat was a size 1 and she needs a size 3. Its all a steep learning curve!
Thanks for that. Yes she is teething a bit. I gave her the bottle OK last night and then an hour of tears ensued. I think its definately something to do with the stage she's at cognitively and live in hope that it wont last.
We are trying a cup now as its been a week and she still wont feed from the bottle. There's lots of mess with the cup ans spout but she seems satisfied afterwards so she must be drinking something!
Just a thought....if she is chewing the teat she might be starting to teeth. My lo has been 'teething' since was about 4 mths (now 9 mths and still no sign!!) and when things are happening he tends to spend most of the time chewing the teat rather than sucking on it! xx

Tried again tonight with Tommee Tippee and managed to get her to drink a bit, with a bit of breast and a bit of crying. The key seems to be getting the milk warm enough and getting her to be calm about it.
Tried tonight bit of breast then switched to bottle, milk very warm and baby and me nice and calm. She took the whole 50ml I'd put in the bottle and then cried and needed lots of reassurance afterwards. I've heard a similar story of another breast fed and sometime bottle fed baby refusing the bottle at around 4 months, so I guess it might be to do with what's going on for her cognitively at the moment and her realisation of difference and of being able to say no?

Hi. My partner has been feeding my baby with espressed milk since the first week she was born but less so recently. Now we are having problems and she absolutely refusing the bottle by screaming and turning her head and chewing on the teat instead of sucking on it. She is 18 weeks now and I am wondering what on earth to do as what we had been doing had allowed me some freedom, and I obviously wont be available to breastfeed her 24 hours a day until shes fully weaned. Any ideas? We are using Avent bottles and teats as I understood they were close to breast.
