Potty Training

I'm having trouble getting my 30 Month old daughter to use the potty. she will sit on it quite happily and understands what it is for. We let her run around with just a t-shirt on but when she feels to need to wee she refuses to use the potty and will scream the place down for her nappy to be put on, we have tried not putting the nappy on but she holds her breath and gets quite distressed. Does anyone have any tips we can try ??

Normally I wouldn't recommend Gina Ford as I'm not a fan of her Contented baby book but my sister in law lent me her Gina Ford potty traing book which I used to potty train my eldest daughter at about the same age as your little one and it was a breeze! She wore proper knickers from day one and by day 2 had no accidents or problems using potty. Kids absolutely love it when you really praise them which seemed to b a big part of the success, when they see how proud of them you are it really encourages them!Good luck

Have u thought about geting her to go straight to the loo? Get a seat for her and make a big thing about how big and clever it is to go for a wee/poo on it. Let her see u on the loo a bit so she knows its not scary. We started with a reward chart with stickers for eevrytime she wees or poos on loo or in potty. My daughter started on the loo straightaway and we used the potty occasionally and she's fine with it. Hope that helps x

I know experts would say not to do this, but bribary will probably help, if you think of her favourite treat, for example chocolate buttons, tell her you'll give her 1 if she sits on the potty, a extra 1 if she wees or poo's?.i think if she thinks she'll have a treat, she'll start to ask to use her potty instead of being reminded and when shes at that stage id say she can have a sweet if she pees 3 times gradually delay her treats like that till shes only having 1 after tea. I think if you do that she'll use her potty without being reminded but she wont expect treats all the time either :)
