Hi there teething can go on right up untill 2yrs so i wouldnt wait that long! If you really want to get rid of the dummy theres no point messing around with cutting back on it,she either has it or doesnt.Too many of my friends have decided to try to wean their babies off it by cutting back on the ammount of time they have it.A baby doesnt understand why they can have one time when they cry but cant have it the next time. So,if its going take it away and be prepared for a few sleepless nights,a little controlled crying should work and in a day or two she'll have forgotten all about it.Its going to be hard-good luck!

Hello, My son is just eight months and I have been having the same prolem with the dummy at night. I want to give it to him because I want him to be soothed, but I also don't want to be getting up all night to replace it. I bought a Sleepytot Comforter a couple of days ago, which I can attach some dummies to. I had to show Sam how to use it at first but after the first night, he finds his dummy by himslef. I'm amazed and delighted and can't stop telling everyone about it. I just hope it lasts!

My daughter slept through the night from 3 months to 6 months with very few disturbances and no dummy or other comforter of any sort, she just used to suck her thumb if she woke up. From 6 months when she started teething and inevitable bit herself, she stopped sucking her thumb. Then at about 8 months, she had a tummy bug, a chest infection and 3 teeth coming through all at the same time and I felt so sorry for her and just wanted to settle her so I gave in and gave her a dummy to go to bed with. She's now 12 months old and the problem I have is that every time she wakes in the night, she shouts and cries until I go and retrieve the dummy for her! Some nights it's only once, others it's nearly every hour! What age would it be ok to try sleep training without the dummy? I was thinking maybe wait until she's finished teething? or would that be too long? Any help or ideas gratefully received! Thanks

I've read somewhere that you can try giving them a blankie or comforter that smells like the parents as a replacement. So get her into that and then get rid of the dummy perhaps?
