Due to new government plans, children who have just turned four in the summer might start school a year later. The new research is suggesting that children who are almost a year younger than their classmates will suffer academically and find it hard to keep up. The Schools Secretary, Ed Balls, is proposing that parents should have more input as to when their children start school. What are your thoughts? Do you think that children who have just turned four are too young to start school? Do you believe they will lag behind their classmates who are almost five years old?
I think this is a good idea. Four is really young to start school; as well as finding it hard to learn at the same pace as five year olds, the younger ones might be left out and bullied. Maybe they should start halfway through the year, like January instead of the previous September?
