My baby cries everytime she wakes up!

Sometimes during the day but mostly at night when my baby (14 months old) wakes up during the night or first thing in the morning she cries till I get there. Is this normal? When will she wake up just babbling or making other noises rather than full on crying? I know its probably cause she just wants me near her but will this ever stop?

Yes it will!!! But as you know all babies are different and they all begin to amuse themselves at different ages. You can try putting a soft book or a new soft rattle or toy in her cot at night after she has gone to sleep to see if she will find them amusing when she wakes up – or a favourite toy may encourage her to play for a while. (Don’t put toys in a young baby’s bed as these can add to the heat and may cause a baby’s temperature to rise, a contributory factor to SIDS – fine for children over 1 year.)

If your daughter wakes up and needs you then it is really best to go to her, check
She is ok, settle her (with a drink of water if necessary) and tell her it is still time to sleep. Some children are just natural early birds and you have to accept that – as she gets older you can explain to her that waking up early is fine but she must stay in her room until you are ready to get up. Once she starts to play and babble to herself leave her for a while but go in before she starts to cry so she has a happy time, but knows you will be there for her.
