This is often a sign of frustration. At 15 months he wants to be able to more than he is able to do developmentally, which leads to him feeling very frustrated. At this age he doesn’t know how to handle this feeling and it can lead to some toddlers displaying the type of behaviour your little boy is. It is important that you handle the situation correctly so that he learns not to do it. If he gets lots of attention when he head buts etc, he will learn that it’s a good thing to do as mum/dad/grandma all come running to him and you will be encouraging him to repeat the behaviour. When he does this try to ignore him and when he stops then give him lots of attention. This will teach him to control his own temper and gradually he will stop the head butting. If you think he is going to hurt himself then just intervene enough to stop him hurting himself but try to do so with minimum amount of interaction. It is tough to watch your little one doing this, but by ignoring him he will learn not to do this. This won’t happen immediately but if you are consistent, it will work. You also need to tell other family members and friends to ignore this behaviour; otherwise they could undo all your good work.
